Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled offensively over the past two weeks. The legendary quarterback was credited with just 139 yards in the Steelers' 21-14 win in New England as struggles from the offensive line have led to the veteran playing inconsistent football. DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin lll remain as top playmakers at Rodgers' disposal, but the future Hall of Fame quarterback will need to play at a higher level moving forward in hopes of returning to the version of himself that we saw in Week 1.

Pittsburgh currently has Roman Wilson as a third option behind Metcalf and Austin at wideout. Wilson is a talented young receiver who had a solid performance at training camp, but has yet to truly make an impact on Pittsburgh's offense in 2025. Steelers Insider Ray Fittipaldo was recently asked about Wilson's production so far this season, as the analyst was able to share his thoughts as to why he believes the receiver has gotten off to a slow start this year.
Fittipaldo claims Wilson could be struggling due to target issues, as Rodgers has predominantly thrown the ball to Metcalf and Austin throughout the first three weeks of the season.
"It just seems like they are going to ride with Metcalf and Austin," Fittipaldo stated. "Roman Wilson's probably not going to be a big part of it. They are going to be focused on the two starting wideouts, Jonnu Smith, and Pat Freiermuth. And until there's an injury, I just don't see how Roman Wilson is a big factor in this offense."
Fittipaldo continued to talk about Wilson's performance at training camp, as he believes that the young receiver will not make an impact this season despite playing at a high level in Latrobe, PA.
"He had a nice camp and everything, but preseason is the preseason. For whatever reason, whether it's playing time, or chemistry with Rodgers, he just doesn't seem to be a big part of things at this point."
Wilson's lack of chemistry with Rodgers could be a legitimate issue. Rodgers grew frustrated with Wilson on multiple occasions throughout training camp, as the veteran quarterback and the young receiver seemed to struggle to get on the same page at times early on. Wilson is a talented player and could become a reliable weapon in the future, but his struggles throughout the first three weeks of the season could be a cause for serious concern.

Wilson currently has just one catch on the year for a total of seven yards. The former third-round pick has only been targeted twice this season as Wilson's only catch on the year came during Week 2's loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Pittsburgh. Wilson is still a talented player despite getting off to a slow start in 2025, as his next opportunity to play at a higher level will come against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.
Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Will Look To Get Back On Track Versus Vikings
Rodgers finds himself with an excellent opportunity to play better football in Week 4 against Minnesota. The Steelers will be in Ireland to face the Vikings, as the veteran quarterback will look to play at a much higher level following an underwhelming performance in two straight weeks. Rodgers' level of play could be a direct result of how the offensive line performs throughout Sunday's matchup as the unit will need to limit the amount of hits that the 41 year old quarterback takes to an absolute minimum.

Fittipaldo's comments surrounding Rodgers' chemistry with Wilson should not come as a surprise. The veteran quarterback grew frustrated with Wilson a number of times throughout the course of training camp, as a lack of chemistry could be a legitimate issue between the veteran quarterback and the young receiver even through the end of September. The Steelers will look to further develop their connection on offense on Sunday.
