The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of many teams in the National Football League looking to potentially make a splash before the November 4th trade deadline. The Steelers may be trying to fill their need for a play-making wide receiver to line up alongside DK Metcalf, and they have been linked to several big-name targets. One of the most notable names is New Orleans Saints pass-catcher and former Ohio State standout, Chris Olave. However with recent news, that big trade may no longer be on the table.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic recently published a column breaking down trade rumors from around the league with the deadline just over two weeks away, and it included some disappointing news for Steelers fans regarding Olave.
"The Saints have been trying to work out a long-term contract for receiver Chris Olave despite his name being attached to teams looking for pass catchers," Russini wrote.
Olave was drafted by the Saints 11th overall in 2022, and he is on the second-to-last year of his rookie contract. Olave lived up to that first-round hype in his first two seasons, surpassing 1,000 yards in both 2022 and 2023. Injuries combined with Olave's frustration over the team's lack of success made him a potential trade candidate for contending teams like the Steelers, but with these recent discussions, it sounds like he may not be leaving New Orleans after all.

From the Saints' perspective, it makes sense to keep Olave in Louisiana. Not only did the Saints use a first-round pick on Olave in 2022, but they traded three other picks in order to move up five spots and take him.
The production has been there when heβs been healthy, and that has been despite dealing with inconsistent quarterback play and an offense that has struggled to find rhythm. Although 2025 has been a disappointing year for New Orleans, keeping Olave as part of a young offensive core could be key for first-year Head Coach Kellen Moore and his long-term vision.
For the Steelers, this news means they may need to look elsewhere for offensive help. After watching Pittsburgh's passing attack against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7, it may seem as if the Steelers don't need to add anymore pass catchers for Aaron Rodgers, but even with the success against Cincinnati, if the Steelers want to be legitimate contenders in 2025, they need more consistency outside of Metcalf.
General Manager Omar Khan has never been afraid to make aggressive moves, and with the AFC playoff race tightening, adding another dynamic receiver could make the difference.

Steelers Now Could Look Elsewhere For Potential Wide Receiver Trade
There have been a few other names thrown around that the Steelers are potentially linked to in regards to a possible trade. Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins and Garrett Wilson from the New York Jets are two other interesting names to keep an eye on. Both Waddle and Wilson are elite level wide receivers who have had tons of success since entering the league.
With both the Dolphins and the Jets having disastrous seasons so far in 2025, moving their big-name wideouts isn't completely unrealistic. Whether the Steelers make a big move or stand still, the message is clear, this is a team that believes it can compete now.
The offense has shown that they can score with some of the best in the league, and adding one more talented target for Rodgers could help Pittsburgh emerge as a legitimate contender in the AFC. The next few weeks will tell whether Khan and Head Coach Mike Tomlin are content with what they have, or if theyβll swing big to give their quarterback another weapon for the stretch run.
