Multiple Steelers Tell Terrifying Truth About State Of Pittsburgh Football

It may be close to Halloween, but the only thing scary about the Pittsburgh Steelers is how bad the defense has been all season long. The fans are the ones that are terrified, as it seems like the team is crumbling before their very eyes. The franchise just lost 35-25 on Sunday Night Football, as the Green Bay Packers put up 28 points in the second half. The schedule only gets harder from here as well. If this unit can't get its act together, the non-losing streak may quickly be in question.

Speaking to the media after the game, defensive captain Cameron Heyward confirmed the fears that many fans had about the team. Actions speak louder than words, but the Steelers' action line up with Heyward's comments.

The question is why. Why is there not enough fight in the Steelers? They have the AFC North crown on a silver platter, but instead of fighting hard and making sure it's theirs, they keep playing soft so someone else can come up and steal it from them. Even though Heyward seems to be telling the truth, it is inexcusable. This can't continue, or else many people will have to be held accountable.

Allowing 35 points the week after allowing 33 shows a lack of fight. Allowing 28 points in a half also shows a lack of fight, and so does constantly allowing 400+ yards and complaining about the same issues every single week. The defense also has not had a takeaway since the month of September. It's panic time in Pittsburgh. They need to find their fight quickly. The Indianapolis Colts will show no mercy in Week 8 if not.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin looks on as his team loses another playoff game at the end of the 2024 season.

It gets worse, too. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. also confirmed what Heyward said about the state of the team currently, further emphasizing the need for something to change as soon as possible.

Whenever people claim that Head Coach Mike Tomlin has lost the locker room, he usually proves them wrong. However, these comments by Heyward and Porter tell a completely different story. The 19th-year head coach is seen as one of, if not, the best motivators in the sport of American football, yet he has not been able to motivate his 2025 defense to show some fight.

Steelers Keep Gaining Reasons To Let Tomlin Go

When players are sick of a coach, it's over. Pittsburgh is nowhere close to being at that point, but things seem to quickly have go awry for the organization in recent weeks. Tomlin needs to figure out how to turn the ship around, or his seat will continue to get warmer, at least in the eyes of the fan base.

The Steelers' schedule does not get any easier moving forward. Even though every team in their division still has a losing record, they will all be chomping at the bit to take away Pittsburgh's AFC North crown.

A simple rah-rah speech will not fix the issues that have plagued the organization for years. If the Steelers continue to be stubborn about how they do things from top to bottom, these same exact issues will pop up for the rest of the season, into 2026, and as far into the future as it can go. The way that things are being done simply do not work. Mediocrity is the standard. Fans are already turning on the team, and more will soon.
