The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team to watch at the trade deadline, especially with how aggressive General Manager Omar Khan has been throughout his time in his current role. The fan base is anxious to see the organization add some more weapons on the offensive side of the ball, but that seems like it might be hard to do as teams around the league are seemingly asking for too much in return to move wide receivers. That is the one glaring position of need for the Steelers on offense, but it doesn't mean Pittsburgh can't look to make some acquisition elsewhere.

Pittsburgh has already added Kyle Dugger at safety on the defensive side of the ball, and that was a necessary move due to how beat up the secondary has been. Khan is calling around the league about the availability of wide receivers as well, but a more realistic trade might be a little less splashy. One player who is all but certain to be on the move before the deadline is offensive lineman Evan Neal of the New York Giants, and the Steelers should consider inquiring about trading for the former top-10 pick.

Neal was the seventh overall pick back in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he has been labeled a bust so far. He was drafted as a tackle, but could never find his footing in the NFL, and he officially switched to guard during the 2025 offseason. He is currently the third string right guard for New York, but his time with the organization seems like it is probably nearing its end.

The Steelers do not need a starter on the offensive line, but some athletic and versatile depth could be very useful. That is especially true with left guard Isaac Seumalo dealing with a nagging pectoral injury. He has exited Pittsburgh's last two games and Spencer Anderson has taken his spot at left guard, which hurts Pittsburgh in more ways than one. Anderson can hold up at left guard, but he is the offense's extra offensive lineman when the group wants to deploy its jumbo package. Pittsburgh has been using that package a ton in 2025, and it has been working and it has given the run game a boost.
When Anderson has to go to left guard, the jumbo package essentially gets erased, but Neal could potentially be a good extra offensive lineman to bring in. He is roughly 6'7" and 340 pounds, which certainly fits the mold for what is needed for Pittsburgh. This could be a low-risk, high-reward addition for the Steelers. The Giants seem desperate to move on from Neal, which means Pittsburgh could probably bring him in for as low as a seventh round pick.
Steelers Could Also Use Evan Neal In The Future
Neal has struggled in the NFL. He never figured things out at tackle, and he failed to really make any noise on the depth chart for the Giants after moving to guard. A change of scenery could be what is needed, or playing under a head coach like Mike Tomlin who is not one to shy away from a reclamation project.

Neal is on the final year of his rookie deal, but if Pittsburgh sees any promise during practice, he could be re-signed to a new, cheap deal during the offseason. Seumalo is likely gone after the 2025 season comes to a close, which means Neal could realistically compete for the starting job at left guard.
