The Pittsburgh Steelers got a big win on Sunday as the team took down the Cincinnati Bengals to get back in the win column. The Steelers won the game by a score of 34-12 as the defense was able to give a strong performance. The group forced two turnovers and scored two touchdowns in the win, but that side of the ball faced some adversity for the Steelers. Star safety Jalen Ramsey was ejected from the game during the second half after getting into two separate altercations with wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and being flagged twice.

Ramsey was penalized twice for getting into it with Chase in between plays, and he was ejected as the NFL has a rule in place where players with two personal fouls are disqualified from games.

He threw a punch at Chase to receive his second flag of the game, which is typically a disqualification whether or not the player has already been flagged. Ramsey exited the game near the start of the fourth quarter while the Bengals had the ball on Pittsburgh's side of the field and the Steelers were nursing an 11-point lead.

This was significant as Cincinnati has one of the best passing offenses in the league, but Pittsburgh was able to hand onto the lead and dominate the rest of the contest. Head Coach Mike Tomlin made it clear after the game that he was not happy with Ramsey's actions.

Per Adam Schefter, the NFL will be taking a closer look at the incident. It is absolutely possible for the league to review what happened and potentially take action against both players.

This occurrence could have a future impact on Pittsburgh as well, as Ramsey could be punished further by the league. Ramsey will likely face a fine, and he could also be suspended a game.

The NFL has not been playing around with unnecessary on-field violence in 2025. Most recently, Daron Payne of the Washington Commanders was suspended one game and fined for punching Amon-Ra St. Brown. It was a clear punch between plays which was very similar to Ramsey's situation, which could be telling of what might happen for the star safety. Footage later came out that St. Brown punched Payne a few plays earlier, but the defensive lineman was still suspended.

Payne is not the only instance of a player getting suspended for on-field violence. Brian Branch of the Detroit Lions was also suspended one game for punching JuJu Smith-Schuster after a game against the Kansas City Chiefs

This sparked a brawl after the game, and the NFL took action almost immediately by suspending him. This could be in the future for Ramsey, which could force the star to miss Pittsburgh's next game against the Chicago Bears. The safety will have the option to appeal the ruling if there is one, but it is hard to tell how that would go.

Steelers' Ramsey Had Good Reason For His Actions

Ramsey accused Chase of spitting on him before he threw the punch at the receiver, which somewhat warrants what he did. That is a disgusting act that has no place on the field, and it is something Jalen Carter was suspended one game for at the start of the season. He was ejected before the first snap of the game, so the league considered that his suspension. Video proof has come out since the game ended, and it is clear that Chase initiated things by spitting on Ramsey.

Chase clearly spit on Ramsey, but the star safety still should have been able to keep his cool. It is important to note that players have still been suspended, even when they are acting out in a warranted manner. Consider Payne as a prime example, as he was punched first. There is a good chance that both players face league discipline, which is the likely outcome of this situation.
