Steelers Have Officially Lost Young Talented Cornerback Once Again

The Pittsburgh Steelers have dealt with injury concerns over the past two seasons, as players keep dropping left and right. Of course, every team seems to have issues there, but it seems like Pittsburgh has been one of the worst teams in that category, especially with the fact that their strength and conditioning staff got the worst grade for the NFLPA report cards. It sounds like something is up on that side of things, and the poor field conditions have not helped. However, not every injury is the team's fault.

Cornerback Cory Trice Jr. had injury concerns from his college career, which is why he fell all the way to Pittsburgh in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Those issues have come back, as his season is officially over in 2025 according to the NFL transaction wire. He will be on Injured Reserve (IR) for the remainder of the season.

Trice suffered an injury in training camp, but his 21-day practice window was opened in October. However, he suffered another injury during the very first practice, and he had not returned since. The Steelers did not have the ability to close his window after it already started, so all they could do is let it expire as the third-year cornerback could not come back in time.

The few times Trice has been active and on the field, he has shown why scouts liked him before injury issues popped up. He even had a huge interception in Week 2 of 2024 to help secure victory for Pittsburgh. On the other hand, your best ability is availability, and that just has not been the case for him. This issue may end his time in the Steel City for good.

Steelers Could Move On From Trice At Season's End

Not only has Joey Porter Jr. been one of the best cornerbacks as of late, but another star in Asante Samuel Jr. is getting back up to speed, and he could easily be re-signed by the Steelers. Despite his major back/shoulder surgery, he has been much more reliable with his health than Trice. Those injury concerns could lead to Pittsburgh cutting him and getting even younger at the position.
