Adam Schefter Sparks Panic With Nightmare Prediction About Steelers' Mike Tomlin's Future In Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers now sit at 6-6 on the 2025 season. While they looked decent earlier in the year and even appeared to be possible contenders, the bottom has fallen out, and it showed in a major way on Sunday when Pittsburgh fell 26-7 to the Buffalo Bills. It was another game defined by being outmatched and failing to make the necessary halftime adjustments. 

The Steelers went into the break up 7-3 and received the ball to start the second half, but everything unraveled immediately. On the first play of the half, Aaron Rodgers was sacked and fumbled, leading to Bills corner Christian Benford scooping it up and taking it to the end zone. That moment swung the game completely, especially after Rodgers went down with an injury.

With Rodgers sidelined, backup quarterback Mason Rudolph stepped in, and things only got worse. Rudolph threw an ugly interception on the ensuing possession, killing any remaining momentum for Pittsburgh’s offense. As the game spiraled, Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin heard his name echoing throughout the stadium, with fans loudly calling for him to be fired. 

Many within Steeler Nation fear that will never happen, as the franchise historically does not fire head coaches. Still, frustration is boiling over, and Sunday’s blowout loss pushed emotions to a new level. NFL insider Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday afternoon to reveal what he has heard regarding Tomlin’s future in Pittsburgh and what could happen across the NFL if things continue to collapse for the Steelers. 

"Tone, I have always felt like if a change ever occurs there, it is gonna be because Mike Tomlin doesn’t wanna be back there," Schefter told Tone Digz on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday morning. "Mike Tomlin, again, I know the people in Pittsburgh do not like it, but he has not had a losing season in his 18 years as a head coach. They also have not won a playoff game since 2016."

With the team sinking fast and the fan base growing louder by the week, Tomlin’s situation is becoming one of the league’s most closely watched storylines. 

At least in the Steel City, it feels like he's quickly falling from grace.

"It’s both ways," Schefter said. "Some people view it one way, other people view it another way. I can say that if the Steelers did not want Mike Tomlin there, and maybe the message is stale, maybe he moves on like Andy Reid and finds a new home. Andy Reid’s time in Philly had run out, and he goes to Kansas City, and you see how that worked out for him. Of course, he drafted [Patrick] Mahomes, but it worked out incredibly well, and the Chiefs love having him. If Mike Tomlin were a coaching free agent, he would automatically become the number one coaching free agent out there. He could have any coaching job he wanted. He could have any broadcasting job he wanted… They are not firing Mike Tomlin. That’s not gonna happen."

Steelers' Mike Tomlin Has Expired In Pittsburgh

Steelers’ Mike Tomlin has expired in Pittsburgh. It has become very clear that his message has grown stale and that his lack of halftime adjustments aren't cutting it in the Steel City anymore. What was once stability has become frustration. 

Fans are fed up, losses keep piling up, and the team shows no life. Even Tomlin's most loyal defenders are starting to wonder if change is truly needed.
