The Pittsburgh Steelers have the opportunity to completely flip the narrative once again in Week 14. As inconsistent as the team has been, a win over the Baltimore Ravens would put the franchise in the unquestioned driver's seat in the AFC North. The fan base has been growing increasingly frustrated with Head Coach Mike Tomlin, but the matter of the fact is that the organization still has a legitimate chance of hosting a home playoff game come January. The noise continues to get louder; however, as there were consistent chants for the head coach to be fired during an abysmal performance against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13.

The national media will often dispute the fact that the Steelers should never move on from Tomlin, and the main reason as to why is typically because he would be scooped up by another franchise almost immediately. That won't stop a passionate fan base for wanting a change, especially if Pittsburgh finds a way to miss the playoffs and have a season with a record under .500 for the first time since 2003.
Adam Schefter continues to be one of the most well-respected NFL insiders across all of professional sports, and he went into a little more detail about Tomlin's future on Thursday during an episode of the Adam Schefter Podcast. Despite how much is going on externally when it comes to Tomlin, there is no sense that any true thought is being put into letting him go on the internal side of things.
"If Pittsburgh wins [against Baltimore], the noise gets quieter," Schefter said. "I know there's been a lot of noise, but the noise seems to be coming from outside more than it does inside. I don't hear within the organization, 'Let's move on from Mike Tomlin.' It's crazy how much noise there actually is relative to what's being said, I think, within the organization, which is not very much right now."
This shouldn't come off as too much of a surprise, but things can change very quickly. If the Steelers continue to tumble and the stadium looks rather empty in the final two home games of the 2025 campaign, it could absolutely get ownership's attention. A win versus the Ravens would solve a lot of things for Tomlin, and the organization as a whole. However, that still doesn't change the fact that the team is on pace for another season of just barely cracking .500.

Tomlin is under contract through the 2027 season and while many believe Art Rooney II would not fire him because of the guaranteed nature of his contract, crazier things have happened. The more likely scenario is a mutual parting that allows Tomlin to either go into the media or begin coaching elsewhere right away, but any fans thinking out these possibilities should understand that it doesn't appear as if top decision-makers are even considering major moves at this point in time.
There will be a lot to pay attention to throughout the course of the season's final five games. The Steelers could finally find a way to play consistent football and slip into the playoffs, or continue to go down the wrong path. The latter may leave Rooney and co. no choice other than to do something that is currently not expected, which would be moving on from Tomlin.

Steelers Would Likely Be NFL's Top Head-Coaching Job Opening
Pittsburgh has only had three head coaches since the 1969 season. If the team and Tomlin were to part ways, it's hard to argue that there wouldn't be a more attractive job opening in all of professional sports. The lack of a franchise quarterback may be an issue, but the loyalty that ownership has may trump that. There is still some time for Tomlin to right the ship; however, fans are closely watching and potentially hoping Schefter begins to hear differently in the coming weeks.
