The Pittsburgh Steelers were fortunate to have Ben Roethlisberger quarterback the franchise for 18 seasons. In Roethlisberger’s 249 career games, all with the Steelers, he accumulated 64,088 passing yards, threw 418 touchdowns, 211 interceptions, and completed 64.4% of his passes. He also rushed for 20 touchdowns himself during his career. Of course, Roethlisberger is most famously known for helping lead the Steelers to two Super Bowl victories, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks in franchise history. Many fans still miss him and would do anything to see him back on the field.

After Philip Rivers returned to the NFL at the age of 44 following five seasons away, the topic of Roethlisberger possibly returning naturally came up. While being celebrated for his induction into the Steelers Hall of Honor, he was asked whether he missed playing in the NFL. Roethlisberger was careful in his response, making it clear that at 43 years old, there is no chance of a comeback.

That said, he admitted he would be lying if the thought had not crossed his mind for one interesting reason. Reflecting on his career, Roethlisberger revealed that reaching 250 games would be a milestone he might have considered playing just one more game to hit. While he is firmly retired, it is a rare glimpse into the competitive drive that made him a legend in Pittsburgh and a quarterback who left fans longing for just a little more on the field.
"It’s really cold," Roethlisberger said when asked if he misses playing in the NFL. "Did we mention how cold it was? Uh, no, in 18 years I got to do it so much."
Roethlisberger quickly made it clear in a joking manner that the thought of playing in frigid temperatures is too much at this stage in his life.

However, it was also clear while speaking that he still misses the game more than he is willing to admit.
"But I did realize last night, which is crazy, that I have played in 249 games," Roethlisberger said. "I was like, 'Do I just come back for one more to get to 250 and make it a round number?' But no, it’s too much now, and every once in a while, I think about the fourth quarter. Other than that, I don’t miss it."
While there is no chance of a comeback, it is certainly a fun thought, especially considering that Aaron Rodgers is still quarterbacking at 42, Joe Flacco has shown he can play at 40, and, of course, Rivers recently returned to the NFL. Still, the cleats will remain hung up for Roethlisberger.
"Zero chance," Roethlisberger said.
Even though Roethlisberger has officially retired, his presence continues to resonate throughout the Steelers organization and fanbase. Seeing him in attendance at Acrisure Stadium for the Week 15 victory over the Miami Dolphins, a solid 28-15 win, reminded everyone of the impact he had on this team.
Steelers Fans Will Forever Cherish The Legacy Roethlisberger Helped Create
Fans could see the joy and pride on his face as the current roster carried on the winning tradition he helped build. While he will never take the field again, Roethlisberger’s legacy is alive in every touchdown, tackle, and celebration, and his love for the game is as strong as ever.
