Steelers Fans Finally Hear From Roman Wilson Amidst Tough Roster News: "We'll Just Laugh At A Moment Like This"

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had some trouble at the wide receiver position throughout the 2025 season. It was known going into the year that it was going to be a problem, but not much was done to fix the issue during training camp or at the trade deadline in the middle of the season. The Steelers instead waited until later on in the year to add some veteran talent to the roster. This included wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Adam Thielen. Valdes-Scantling was on the practice squad for a little bit, but he and Thielen have each been active for the last two games and made a decent impact.

Valdes-Scantling caught a touchdown in Pittsburgh's Week 15 win over the Miami Dolphins and Thielen has caught a couple passes himself, as well as being a force in the blocking game. The two veteran wide receivers have made a difference for Pittsburgh, even if their production doesn't jump off of the page. Unfortunately, their presence forced the Steelers to demote some players elsewhere, which is what happened to second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson. He has been a healthy scratch the last two games, and he spoke to insider Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about how he is dealing with the recent adversity.

"Just trying to look at it from every positive aspect," Wilson said. "This is a good time for me to reflect on the rest of the season for me and how I've been improving -- and just keeping that same mindset, where every day is a good opportunity for me to build and grow and learn from guys like Adam, MVS, DK [Metcalf], Aaron [Rodgers]. It's been tough, but I'm trying to look at it as a big blessing and another opportunity to grow."

Thielen and Valdes-Scantling may have taken Wilson's spot on game days, but the young wide receiver is still attacking the situation with a motivated attitude. He isn't discouraged by the veteran wide receivers entering the fold, he instead looks to those guys for advice and help. That should be better for Wilson in the long run.

Steelers Roman Wilson

Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson flexes his muscles after a big time play on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.

Wilson has had a rough go of it so far in the NFL. He missed nearly his entire rookie season in 2024 with a handful of injuries, and he hasn't really gotten a real chance in 2025. He has made some plays as he has caught 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, but the coaching staff clearly wants to see him improve more behind the scenes. The young receiver spoke more to Batko about the situation.

"I guess it's just a part of the process," Wilson said. "I'll grow from it. I'll dig myself out. We'll look back and we'll just laugh at a moment like this."

The young weapon seems to have a lot of optimism moving forward, which is good to hear for fans. There was a lot of hope surrounding Wilson back when he was drafted in 2024, and now some of that hope has diminished. Wilson is confident he will be able to succeed in the near future, which will probably have to wait until the 2026 season.

Steelers' Roman Wilson Has Probably Played His Last Football Game For The 2025 Season

The Steelers seem to have found something with Valdes-Scantling and Thielen, and it seems like Scotty Miller is the receiver that is chosen to be active over Wilson for the last WR spot. Miller has a ton of NFL experience in big games, and he also serves as a capable kick and punt returner for Pittsburgh, hence why he gets a helmet over Wilson. That probably means Wilson is done for the 2025 season, which means fans will have to wait for 2026 to see the young wideout again.
