The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping to celebrate in the 2027 calendar year. Hoisting a Lombardi Trophy would be nice, but that seems like a lofty goal given the state of the roster and new regime under Mike McCarthy. One exciting possibility, however, is legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He will have some hurdles to jump, but his playing career speaks for itself. It's very possible that he gets the nod after a phenomenal stint in the Steel City, which led to a pair of Super Bowls for one of the most storied franchises in all of sports.

Steelers retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (#7) runs on the field to warm up with his teammates prior to a 2021 regular season game in Pittsburgh, PA.
Roethlisberger wasn't the least controversial player in Steelers history. He had several social allegations come up rather early in his career, which led to the public's opinion of him being seriously swayed. Despite some off-the-field issues, he was always a star on the gridiron, and that made him a well-respected player throughout the league during his 18-year career.
It's say to say, though, that not all of his former teammates appreciate him. On the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast, Joey Porter Sr. did not spare his former quarterback in the slightest. He openly discussed just how bad of a guy Roethlisberger was to have in the locker room, which is a shocking statement coming from someone that was just inducted into the Steelers' Hall of Honor with Roethlisberger back in December.
"That sh*t that [Roethlisberger] do that we don't talk about is crazy," Porter said. "Out of anybody, he should never grab a microphone and talk Steelers business because if we talking Steelers business, his a** is foul of all foul. That sh*t he did is foul of all foul. He's not a good teammate. Won a Super Bowl with him, but the person? He's just not a good teammate. He knows that. Anybody in the Steelers' building knows that, but we protected him."
These are not just simple statements coming from Porter; they are powerful. A legend in Pittsburgh in his own right, the retired outside linebacker completely ripped into a former teammate to someone who is currently on the team in Cam Heyward. Porter noted that Roethlisberger would refuse to sign things for players to give to their families. While the two celebrated a championship together, that doesn't mean Porter forgives him for how he allegedly acted.
"I've only won one Super Bowl and that was my quarterback. So, do I love my quarterback? Yes. Is he a good person? No," Porter stated.
Roethlisberger hasn't always earned kind reviews from those that have been around him in the past, but Porter's words are rather surprising given the fact that the two were just smiling together back in December.

The future Hall of Famer has a podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, and is often heard giving stern opinions on the state of the team. It's clear that Porter is not fond of what the retiree is doing, even if Roethlisberger has freedom of speech to say as he pleases. It makes one wonder how and/or why Porter is still this upset so many years later regarding his own opinion of the six-time Pro Bowler.
Roethlisberger will always be beloved in the Steel City because of what he did for the organization. Franchise quarterbacks don't come around often and the two-time Super Bowl champion is one of the better signal-callers of all time, not just for the Steelers. However, statements like this surely paint an interesting picture about his reputation and how some former teammates view him.

Steelers May Hear Response From Roethlisberger
Roethlisberger will certainly get whiff of these recent comments from Porter. It will be interesting to see if he using his podcast to make comments of his own. It's also possible that he lets it go, but when your character is attacked so publicly, it could make sense for the legend in Pittsburgh to get an opportunity to speak his mind. He's never held back from doing that in the past.
Update: Many Steelers fans and reporters are reacting to Porter's comments
This from popular radio host Andrew Fillipponi on X.
OMG: Joey Porter absolutely DESTROYS Big Ben on Cam Heyward’s podcast. Says he wasn’t a good teammate. He’s not a good person. And has no right to talk about the Steelers business on his podcast. Holy crap. Watch. pic.twitter.com/nMZQ92hlgi

One commenter replies that Porter is making NFL insider Dianna Russini from The Athletic feel uncomfortable with his comments.
Look how uncomfortable Joey is making the woman on the couch with him (think that is Diana Russini). She wants nothing to do with this conversation. Even pulling the “pretends to look at iPhone” move.
