The Pittsburgh Steelers were just a couple of feet away from losing the AFC North to the Baltimore Ravens. A Tyler Loop missed field goal as time expired in Week 18 allowed fans in the Steel City to breathe a major sigh of relief. A two-game suspension handed out to DK Metcalf almost completely derailed the team’s 2025 campaign. Unfortunately, nothing good came after that highly-contested matchup, as a brutal 30-6 playoff loss to the Houston Texans followed. Now, the franchise has a new head coach and a whole lot of looking in the mirror to do with Super Bowl LX over.

The Seattle Seahawks took down the New England Patriots out in San Francisco, which allowed the Steelers to remain atop of the NFL with six Lombardi Trophies. The game wasn’t filled with a lot of offensive firepower, but the better team certainly won. The irony for Pittsburgh in this matter is that Metcalf was traded from Seattle back in the 2025 offseason. The Steelers paid him big-time money, while the Seahawks brought in Cooper Kupp to help fill the gap.
One has to wonder what Metcalf may be thinking when it comes to the team that drafted him finally getting over the hump. One year, he is a part of the organization, and then he gets shipped off to the East Coast, only to watch his former teammates win a championship. One thing is for sure, and that’s the fact that Ravens defender Marlon Humphrey wanted to remind Metcalf of exactly that, as he posted on X to take a slight dig at the Steelers' receiver.
My feelings don’t get hurt too often. But if I left a team then they won the superbowl after.. I might feel some type of way 😅

This could be a generic thought from Humphrey, but it seems as if he often has calculated social media posts. He and Metcalf went at it during the teams' battle in Baltimore, only to not have round two because of Metcalf's suspension. The AFC North remains a fierce division and the rivalries from within cannot go unnoticed. Humphrey has been beefing with Steelers fans and players for years, and it's clear that he doesn't want to stop anytime soon, either.

The unfortunate part of the post is that Metcalf has no chance to respond on the field until the fall. Humphrey has had a few decent years in his career, but there's no doubt that Metcalf is the better player currently. No names were mentioned, but his social media post can certainly be used as some bulletin board material if the Steelers want to fire up the wide receiver for an AFC North showdown in 2026.
No love is lost between these two franchises, and that will continue moving forward. Metcalf may be relatively new to the division rivalry, but he is the ultimate competitor. It likely stings that the Seahawks won the Super Bowl immediately after his departure, but he's probably doing just fine sitting on over $30 million per year while having a chance to make a long-term impact in the Steel City.
Steelers Can Truly Help DK Metcalf Explode In 2026
Pittsburgh has an elite talent in Metcalf. He does, however, need someone opposite of him to take the attention of opposing defenses in different directions. One of the team's top priorities throughout the offseason will be finding one, or multiple, pass-catchers to improve the receiving game. If that occurs, Metcalf could be on his way to having a career campaign. It is imperative that the front office finds a way to get him open more, and that will be by adding great, and younger, talent around him.
