Pittsburgh Steelers' legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been in the sports headlines a bit lately, despite the fact that he retired from the NFL after the 2021 season. Former teammate Joey Porter Sr. decided to call out the future Hall of Famer in a recent interview on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward. Many have been anticipating a response from the two-time Super Bowl champion, and there would be no better way for him to do that than by releasing an episode of his own show, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger.

Retired Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger looks off into the distance as he warms up for a cold-weather professional football game at then-Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA.
On Tuesday evening, Roethlisberger did publish a new episode of his podcast. Many Steelers were fans hoping that he would defend himself to Porter — further prolonging the newfound rivalry — but that simply wasn't the case. In fact, there was very little talk about football as the retiree spent most of his time speaking about family, growth and movies.
There was a small piece of NFL discussion throughout the appearance, and in the very beginning, Roethlisberger wanted to bring up the fact that the Miami Dolphins released star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
"Don't know what, if anything, is going to transpire with that. I just thought that was interesting," Roethlisberger said.
Roethlisberger then started discussing the possibility of a group in the locker room getting together to recruit Hill as he enters free agency for the first time in his professional career.
"There might be guys on the team that know Tyreek, or whatever, that would be, hey, reaching out to him, or whatever. Going to coach and, 'Hey, what do you think about [Tyreek],'" Roethlisberger stated.
Hill is coming off of a gruesome knee injury that basically ended his time with the Dolphins. Due to the nature of his recovery, it's possible that Hill doesn't even play in 2025. Roethlisberger still thinks that it could be a very fascinating situation for the Steelers. Pittsburgh needs help at wide receiver and regardless of Hill possibly not being fully healthy, the former quarterback thinks he still would be able to make an impact.
"I don't even know what the situation's like, like, did he get hurt later in the year so he's gonna be out for a big chunk of the year? But, you know, at the end of the day, someone like that, you know, he's still faster than most people. So, could be interesting. That's all I'm saying — could be interesting," Roethlisberger explained.
The veteran retired QB doesn't have any inside information on the subject, or at least he did not claim to have any. However, despite Hill turning 32 in March, the thought of him in the black and gold seems to intrigue the Pittsburgh legend.

No one is quite sure when Hill will be cleared for football activities. That's why it makes sense for the veteran to focus on his rehab, and find somewhere to sign once he is healthy. This will give him the opportunity to play for a postseason contender, rather than signing a very small deal ahead of the campaign with a lot of unknowns surround the situation.

It has been a while since the Steelers had two receivers capable of putting up big numbers week-in and week-out. Hill may be growing older, but he still has that speed. The hope is that the knee injury doesn't derail that, and it seems as if Roethlisberger would entertain the idea of him playing in the Steel City.

Steelers Could Take Asante Samuel Jr. Approach To Hill
Towards the end of the 2025 campaign, Pittsburgh needed help at the cornerback position. The decision was made to sign Asante Samuel Jr., who had surgery the prior offseason. In the event that the Steelers are competing for a playoff spot in 2026, reaching out to Hill if he is available closer to Thanksgiving could possibly be an option.
