The Pittsburgh Steelers traded to land DK Metcalf ahead of the 2025 season, and at last, Steelers fans felt like the wide receiver room was fixed. The idea of Metcalf on one side and George Pickens on the other excited not just Pittsburgh fans, but fans of the game around the NFL. It looked like the Steelers had finally assembled a dominant receiving duo capable of stressing defenses every week.

That optimism did not last long. Pittsburgh quickly made it clear they had no interest in a long-term future with Pickens and traded him to the Dallas Cowboys. Pickens went on to become one of the best wide receivers in the league in 2025, while the Steelers were left once again searching for answers. Metcalf is firmly established as the number one option, but beyond him, the depth chart remains thin and unreliable.
Now, another opportunity may be emerging. With the Miami Dolphins releasing Tyreek Hill, making him an unrestricted free agent for the 2026 season, Pittsburgh has a chance to pair a true superstar opposite Metcalf. The problem is that the Steelers will not be alone. Other receiver-needy teams are expected to aggressively pursue Hill, and Mike Florio joined 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday to explain which teams could have a stronger case than Pittsburgh in the race to land him.
"Well, you know, Tyreek Hill has the serious knee injury that he is still recovering from," Mike Florio said while speaking on 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday. "I had forgotten that there is an open personal conduct policy investigation that was fueled by allegations made against him by his estranged wife. So you have a couple of things which could cause some teams to be hesitant, but if the guy is healthy and if he is playing, he is a difference maker."
The issue is that Hill is now 31 years old and is attempting to come back from a very serious knee injury that was too gruesome for many fans to even watch.

On top of that, there is a personal conduct investigation that could also hurt his market. However, Florio believes the reward far outweighs any risk of trying to bring Hill onto a roster.
"The Chiefs, defensive tackle Chris Jones already got on social media saying it's time," Florio said. "You look at the Bills. They get called out all the time for not putting enough talent around Josh Allen. Well, now Hill is available. The Chargers need weapons, and where is Mike McDaniel now? The former head coach of the Dolphins is the offensive coordinator there. I think that if Hill is healthy, there are enough teams that can use him that would be willing to take the risk."
The Steelers certainly check the box of a team that could use him and should take the risk.
Steelers General Manager Omar Khan Hasn't Been Scared To Take Big Shots
It will be interesting to watch and see how General Manager Omar Khan handles the Hill situation. He’s available and is certainly an option, but does Pittsburgh really want a 31-year-old wide receiver known for his speed, coming off a potentially career-altering injury? Only time will tell how Pittsburgh approaches this opportunity, but scared money don’t make money.

That’s something Khan has lived by in his aggressive approach. With a new regime in town and a desperation to improve this offense, Hill may seriously have a path to Pittsburgh, but it won’t be clear as teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills, and Los Angeles Chargers could all use him as well.
