The Pittsburgh Steelers have piled up draft picks ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. While there is much speculation about who they'll select with their first-round pick, there has been some stir about what additional position groups they'll add in the mid-rounds. The dozen draft picks that Omar Khan has acquired give them a ton of versatility to trade up for a player or trade down for potential 2027 capital. Either way, it seems like a true guessing game for fans and pundits on how the Steelers will attack this draft.

The Steelers brass have not been afraid to host quarterbacks throughout the pre-draft process. The team hosted University of Miami quarterback Carson Beck for a top-30 visit back in March. Beck helped lead the Hurricanes to a College Football Playoff Championship appearance during the 2025-26 college football season. He displayed that he could be a great leader and played well under pressure. Beck is projected to be a Day 3 pick in the draft and has the intangibles that teams like Pittsburgh look for in a signal-caller.
On an episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, Steelers beat writer Ray Fittipaldo outlined a scenario in which the Black and Gold would take the quarterback. In the conversation, Fittipaldo was asked which quarterback the Steelers would be interested in with one of their third-round picks, based on the players projected to be there at the spot.
"If they were to use their first third-rounder on one of those guys, I would say it would be Carson Beck. They met him formally at the combine. They also brought him in for a visit, [and] sometimes, where there's smoke, there's fire. There seems to be real interest there," Fittipaldo explained. "It wouldn't be a high pick. It would still be somewhat of a flyer, but if there's one guy that I think maybe has a bullseye on him at this point, just reading the tea leaves, I would say it's Carson Beck."
Beck is listed at 6'4" and 215 pounds. He is exactly the archetype that makes up an AFC North quarterback. Beck matured throughout his college career, starting his journey at the University of Georgia, where he started two seasons, before transferring to Miami. He was a starter for three total seasons, and that experience would be a huge plus for the Steelers. He played in plenty of huge games and proved that he can be a winning quarterback with big programs.

The organization has three picks to utilize in round three, and Beck is certainly a possibility at one of those picks. But based on the amount of research that the front office has done with Beck, it gives the idea that there could be something they really like about him. Beck let it loose often during his time in Miami Gardens and worked through his progressions well. His accuracy was sometimes an issue, but with NFL coaching, he has the chance to really improve in that area. Beck's ability to extend plays is yet another reason he could be a solid addition. Backyard football is a common theme in the AFC North.
Steelers Could Have Another Promising QB To Choose In The Middle Rounds
The 2026 quarterback draft class isn't top-heavy. There is obviously the consensus number one pick in Fernando Mendoza, but besides him, it's unclear if another gunslinger goes in the first round. From there, a guy like Ty Simpson seems like the next quarterback off the board. After Simpson, it's fuzzy who the next young arms would be off the board. If Beck were to be selected ahead of Pittsburgh, the team still has options at a similar draft position. The Steelers hosted Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green with one of their top-30 visits, and he could be another choice on Day 3.

Green is an extremely athletic quarterback who showed out at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. He could be there for the taking if Beck is unavailable or if Pittsburgh wants a different type of quarterback on its roster. Either way, it seems that the addition of a new arm is a huge possibility for the Black and Gold.
