The Pittsburgh Steelers came into the 2026 NFL Draft looking to improve the roster immediately, and there is reason to believe that the franchise has done just that. Through the first three rounds of the event, there has been a clear offensive focus for the Steelers as four of the team's five selections came on that side of the ball. Max Iheanachor and Gennings Dunker have been added to the offensive line, while Germie Bernard and Drew Allar were two exciting selections. Daylen Everette was the lone defensive selection through the first two days of the event.

Pittsburgh has had some weird moments and a questionable pick or two so far in the 2026 NFL Draft, but the franchise strengthened its draft class by selecting wide receiver Kaden Wetjen in the fourth round of the event. He played his college football at Iowa.

He gets to hear his name called as the sixth member of Pittsburgh's draft class, and hopefully he is able to carve out a role for himself throughout the start of offseason activities. He specializes as a returner, but he can also be viewed as a gadget player on the offensive side of the ball. He will probably be great to have when it comes to screens, jet sweeps, end arounds, and any sort of trick plays.

Wetjen probably was not on many people's radar entering the 2026 NFL Draft, but he was known by many analysts and teams. He was named the best returner in the country in each of the past two seasons, and he succeeded Cooper DeJean as the main returner for Iowa after DeJean entered the NFL in 2024.
Wetjen will join some of his former teammates in Pittsburgh. Dunker was just drafted by the Steelers, and Kaleb Johnson was selected in 2025. Logan Lee was also a teammate of Wetjen at Iowa. There is a lot of familiarity with the wide receiver, and he should be able to help Pittsburgh on special teams. The Steelers have struggled when it comes to returning kickoffs especially, and this addition should help the franchise moving forward.

The Steelers still have some work to do as the franchise has a ton of draft capital remaining in the event, and it will be interesting to see how the organization decides to use it. Improving the return game was a necessary move for Pittsburgh, and now teams may think twice before kicking to the Steelers in 2026.
