Steelers Caught In Viral "Curse" Controversy After Cowboys Fan's Strange Stunt During Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a very exciting 2026 NFL Draft when they selected 10 players. Some interesting news came out on Monday that the Steelers are not likely to keep all 10 of those players on the active roster. Either way, seven of those 10 players were offensive players, and that is something this fan base has truly wanted to see for quite some time now.

The 2026 NFL Draft was also very exciting because the city of Pittsburgh was hosting it for the first time ever in NFL history. It was a major success, just like NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell imagined, and Pittsburgh broke the record with 805,000 fans in attendance for the event. Drama unfolded between the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Steelers GM Omar Khan during the first round. However, that was not the only Cowboys versus Steelers drama unfolding during the event.

On a less serious note, a clip has gone viral on social media of Cowboys fans burying a Dak Prescott card on the Acrisure Stadium field during the draft. The main stage was too crowded, so fans were sent into Acrisure Stadium and some got to sit on the field. That is when an alleged Cowboys fan dug a hole into the field and attempted to bury the Prescott card.

The idea of this 'curse' or whether it is actually a curse is up to football fans all across the world to discuss. However, what is funny here is that the night ended up going somewhat awry in Pittsburgh’s own city. There was a viral clip that made the rounds where Khan was seen on the phone with top wide receiver prospect Makai Lemon. Khan was heard telling Lemon that he was going to be a Steeler and that Pittsburgh was going to draft him.

Then Lemon could be heard asking why Philadelphia was calling him, and moments later his agent informed him that a trade had happened and Lemon was now an Eagle. The Steelers were forced to quickly pivot and they selected Max Iheanachor with the 21st pick instead.

Naturally, this pick generated mixed reviews from the fans. The idea of taking Lemon at 21st overall would have been very exciting in the moment. However, Iheanachor could very well end up being the better pick long-term. Offensive tackles are not often the sexy selection on draft night, but down the road, if they pan out, they become legitimate offensive weapons themselves.

After the draft, the drama continued, but Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones wanted to ensure Pittsburgh that there was no ill will behind the earlier trade. He explained that they made the move with their divisional rival because they felt it was in their best interest, although not everyone is buying what Jones is selling. Some could even say that maybe the 'curse' already paid off, though that is said very much in jest.

Steelers Move Forward With Fun 2026 Draft Class

No one truly knows how good or bad a draft class is until several years down the line. It is always fun to guess about prospects, but naturally it all comes down to situation, luck, and talent in the NFL. The Steelers move forward with a very fun, offense-focused 2026 draft class that will be the subject of many discussions for years to come.
