The Pittsburgh Steelers have had some major weaknesses on offense over the last several seasons. The offensive line has been in peril, the quarterback position has been inconsistent, and the franchise has lacked weapons at wide receiver. The organization has made considerable progress when it comes to fixing all of those issues. There has been a clear investment in the offensive line and a lot of young players are developing well up front. Aaron Rodgers is likely to return in 2026, which would break the streak of Pittsburgh going five straight seasons with a different quarterback starting Week 1. General Manager Omar Khan also improved the wide receiver position dramatically.

Steelers' Michael Pittman Jr. makes a miraculous catch on his helmet during a home game while with the Indianapolis Colts.
Khan has been somewhat aggressive in fixing the wide receiver position. During the 2025 offseason, he acquired DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a second-round pick, and he then made another trade in 2026 with the Indianapolis Colts to bring in Michael Pittman Jr. Both players were signed to extensions after the trade was completed, although the Colts were trying to dump Pittman's contract so the Steelers were able to acquire him for just a late-round pick swap. The trade was certainly worth it, and it was a great move by Khan.
Pittman's teammate from his time in Indianapolis, Josh Downs, hosts a podcast called Downs 2 Business. He was discussing moves that the Colts have made since the 2025 season came to an end on a recent episode, and he spoke about Pittman while sharing a conversation the two had.
"Pitt gonna be over there in Pittsburgh," Downs said. "He told me how they might use him. I know he's excited about that. He'll be in the Steel City, I know they got some great fans over there. So I'm excited for him as well."
Pittman was reportedly sharing his excitement for how he is going to be used within the offense in Pittsburgh, which should be something that gets the fan base going. The offense has been disappointing and somewhat boring in recent years, so maybe this means the product on the field might be taking a step forward.

Downs did not go into detail with how Pittman shared that he would be used, but many have speculated that he will see a good amount of targets over the middle of the field. He has always excelled when it comes to running intermediate routes, which is something the offense in Pittsburgh has been missing. Those types of throws are something that Aaron Rodgers excels at, and the two could have a great connection if the veteran quarterback decides to return for the 2026 season.
Metcalf saw a lot of defensive attention during the 2025 season, and oftentimes opposing defenses tried to take him out of games. Pittman being on the field will make that harder to do, especially in what will hopefully be a more imaginative offense under new head coach Mike McCarthy.
Steelers Also Added A Promising Wide Receiver In Germie Bernard
Despite the addition of Pittman, it was known that the Steelers also had to attack the wide receiver position through the 2026 NFL Draft. The franchise tried to draft Makai Lemon in the first round, but that did not work out. The organization pivoted to Germie Bernard in the second round, and he seems to have a ton of promise and potential. He should immediately slot in as the team's third wide receiver, and he has been praised for his ability to play inside and outside. He is also known for his willingness to block, which is a good way for a young player to get on the field.

If Bernard can be productive immediately, this offense will really open up for Pittman and Metcalf.
What do you think Pittman's role in the offense for the Steelers might be? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
