The Pittsburgh Steelers made it a priority to acquire veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers ahead of the 2025 season under then-head coach Mike Tomlin. While Tomlin is no longer leading the franchise after stepping down and being replaced by Mike McCarthy for the 2026 campaign, Steelers fans got a glimpse of what Rodgers can bring to Pittsburgh during his first season with the team.

Now entering what Rodgers has said will be the final season of his NFL career, the four-time MVP is reuniting with McCarthy in hopes of ending his legendary career on a high note. Although he is at a much later stage in his career, many pundits still believe Rodgers is capable of turning back the clock and delivering some vintage moments.
With a new era underway in Pittsburgh, many fans are wondering what to expect from the Rodgers-led offense under McCarthy. Former NFL wide receiver Adam Thielen spent the 2025 season with the Steelers and recently offered some insight during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, revealing that playing alongside Rodgers made him feel like a rookie again. That's a noteworthy statement from a veteran like Thielen, who spent more than a decade in the NFL and understands the demands of playing at the highest level.
"Now is it stressful? Yes. It's the most stressed I've been in my entire career," Thielen said during his time speaking on The Players' Point podcast. "As you were asking the question, I was kind of laughing again because I felt like I was a rookie again. You kind of like, I don't know what he's gonna say, and I hope I know what he says, 'cause if I don't, I'm gonna get my butt chewed and I'm never gonna get the ball. So I better lock in every second of every day."
JJ Jansen was stunned to hear those comments from Thielen, especially considering the veteran receiver spent 13 seasons in the NFL.

While feeling stressed is not typically viewed as a positive, Thielen explained why Rodgers' demanding approach is actually one of the biggest reasons for his success. It is also something Steelers fans should love to hear.
"Listen, I had to lock in or he really would rip me, and he wasn't going to throw me the ball," Thielen said. "It's a good thing, and it's why he's had so much success, because he demands so much out of everybody. Everybody is the same, whether you're a rookie or a veteran, whether you've caught a million balls from him or zero. He treats everyone the same way, and he demands your best every day. He treats every day like it's the Super Bowl. You could be running a two-minute drill on a Wednesday practice going into Week 17, and he literally thinks it's the Super Bowl. That's exactly why he's had so much success."
Steelers Had Positive First Season With Rodgers
Many fans were not sure what to expect when Rodgers elected to come to Pittsburgh. In his first season with the Steelers, he threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. His leadership was also exceptional. Rodgers also proved he still has the arm talent to give this veteran roster a legitimate chance to make a postseason run.

For that to become a reality, Rodgers will need better protection up front. Fortunately for Pittsburgh, the roster has been revamped and the supporting cast around him has improved heading into 2026.
