The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line is composed of a mix of high-level veterans and some emerging young talent. While the group had some ups and downs in 2025, with another year of gelling and the less-experienced talent beginning to develop, the trajectory of the unit is good. Pittsburgh prides itself on a dynamic defensive front, and the current group is hoping to get to the next level. After a disappointing year overall for the defense, the defensive line could be a huge factor in getting the team on track.

With a brand new coaching staff, the defense will have a clean slate. After several miscues and many players alluding to miscommunication and scheme being major issues, this fresh start is yet another reason to believe in a better performance.
Many players are looking to make a big splash, especially on the aforementioned defensive line. With second-year players, like Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black, looking to make a mark, the youth could provide a ton of depth.
Beyond those two, there's another young player who will have a prove-it season on the defensive line. The Athletic's Mike DeFabo revealed that 2024 sixth-rounder Logan Lee has a big year ahead of him.
"After missing his entire rookie year in 2024, he provided depth last year. This is an important season for him," DeFabo wrote.
Lee was chosen with the 178th pick in 2024, but missed the entire 2024 season after a major injury. He returned to the team in 2025 and played in seven games, registering two combined tackles and a quarterback hit. His role wasn't substantial, but based on the way the defensive line is shaping out, he could find himself with a slightly larger role.

Lee was a four-year player at the University of Iowa, where he put up some solid numbers. He had three sacks in each season from his sophomore season to his senior season, and his consistency landed him in Pittsburgh. With the Steelers not being afraid to involve youth on their defensive line, Lee could be an important rotational piece.
With one season under his belt now, he'll be acclimated to the NFL. With health being the primary concern, he'll now be two years removed from his injury, which should give him a perfect opportunity to add more reps. With 2026's training camp nearing, Lee's performance could be a factor in determining his role in 2026. He could break out in camp and find himself being a primary depth piece if he performs well.
While he should make the team, a solid showing would be a good thing to ensure his roster spot. The Steelers could use his services, as they're looking to become a top group again, and if Lee can hold it down, it will only help the unit reach top status.
Steelers' Defensive Line Has Big Year Ahead Of It
The group has an interesting mixture of emerging youth and savvy veterans, and that versatility makes for a unique situation. The unit is headlined by star Cam Heyward, who, in his age-36 season in 2025, looked ageless. Heyward will still be the cornerstone at his spot, but Harmon, Black, and Keeanu Benton will provide some really solid help with great upside.

The defensive line is a very deep group for Pittsburgh, and for them to be a blessing to reassert dominance, and last grueling season in the AFC North, they'll need that depth. With young players looking to break out and a veteran star like Heyward wanting to remain a superstar, there are some questions; however, the pure amount of quality players within the group should outshine any doubts. This will be a huge year for this intriguing unit.
