Germie Bernard Drops Savage Remark Ahead Of Rookie Season With The Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers made the fan base very excited when the organization moved up in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft to select wide receiver Germie Bernard out of Alabama. This is a position that the team has been hurting in over the last several seasons, and now some young potential has been injected into the room. He is known for being a willing blocker and hard worker, so hopefully he will be able to get on the field early on in his career for Pittsburgh. Several members of the organization have already praised the young player, which is a good sign.

Bernard seems to have a steady stream of confidence. He made his mark on several college programs before declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, and he is as pro-ready as a wide receiver can be. He hasn't been shy when it comes to expressing his feelings about what the offense in Pittsburgh can be during the 2026 season, and he probably plans to be a big part of that.

The young wide receiver was recently on the podcast Big Time Talks, and he spoke with the host about being a wide receiver. Bernard was asked what his favorite part about playing the position is, to which he gave another confident reply.

"It's dope bro," Bernard said about being a wide receiver. "It's like, when you get to score a touchdown in front of 100,000 fans, and they going crazy. They going crazy for you. I just enjoy being able to make people look silly, score touchdowns, and have fun. It's cool."

Bernard isn't afraid to express his true feelings. He enjoys making defenders look silly on the field as he mentioned, which is the mindset a team should want from a wide receiver. He can do this while running a route, or he can do it with the ball in his hands. One of the best parts of his game is being able to run after the catch, which is an area that the Steelers have struggled in as of late.

Bernard will hopefully get to the point where he is making defenders look silly in the open field in the NFL, but first he is going to have to earn a role. That is going to start with getting on the same page as quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which could take some time. Once that happens, he is going to have to earn the veteran's trust. He can do this by being dependable on limited opportunities. This could mean turning nothing into something, moving the chains, and not letting the ball hit the ground.

If the young wide receiver can get on Rodgers' good side while earning a role in the coaching staff's eyes, he has a chance to be a high-impact player early on in his career. His explosiveness can translate to the field in the NFL, and the Steelers have been needing some more of that.

Rodgers showed during the 2025 season that he is not trying to hold onto the football for too long. At his age, he can't really extend plays behind the line of scrimmage like he used to, which means the short passing game is vital. This was evident by how involved Kenneth Gainwell was in the air attack in 2025, and Bernard could help supplement the passing game in a similar manner. He has a good build and is good at catching passes over the middle of the field or around the line of scrimmage, and he is a threat to catch it and bust one. 

This may be an area that Rodgers will look for him, which should be exciting for the fan base.
