As the Pittsburgh Steelers get underway in Latrobe, PA for training camp, it is important to look around the AFC North and the rest of the NFL to get a pulse on how things are going across the league. It did not take long for chaos to erupt in Ohio, as the Cincinnati Bengals saw their star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase get involved in a heated confrontation with his own teammates during practice.

Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey lays big hit on Bengals' wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase during regular season game in the 2025 season.

WLWT’s Jaron May posted video of the incident, and during the clip, Chase appeared to be in the middle of a pile surrounded by players from both the offense and defense before things quickly escalated. Bengals defensive back DJ Turner II appeared to be the player Chase was going back and forth with, and the situation reached another level when Chase grabbed Turner’s helmet and ran out of the frame with it.

Chase eventually threw the helmet off to the side in a frustrated manner, clearly trying to send a message during the heated exchange. The star receiver then continued arguing with members of the Bengals’ defense before appearing to challenge players to settle things one-on-one. At one point, Chase turned toward Jalen Davis and appeared to flinch toward him in an attempt to intimidate him during the confrontation.

While training camp fights are nothing new across the NFL, these moments always draw attention because they show the intensity and competitiveness that comes with preparing for a new season. For the Steelers, who are keeping a close eye on their AFC North rivals, this is another reminder that emotions can run high once teams get back on the field and the pads start coming on.

While training camp fights are never much more than something that happens during the intensity of football practices, it is important to understand the history surrounding Chase and these types of situations.

Steelers' History With Chase Adds Context To Latest Bengals Training Camp Drama

During the 2025 NFL season in November, Chase was involved in a heated altercation with Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey. The two incredibly talented players were competing at a high level throughout the game, and naturally, some trash talk followed. However, things appeared to cross the line.

Ramsey was initially ejected from the contest after putting his hands on Chase’s face-mask. It was only after the game that the NFL reviewed additional video evidence and determined Chase had spit on Ramsey, which led to Ramsey’s reaction. After the league reviewed the footage, Chase was ultimately suspended one game without pay for his actions.

Following the game, Chase denied spitting on Ramsey and insisted he never did anything wrong. However, the video evidence told a different story, and the situation quickly became a major talking point around the league. Former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin appeared to understand why Ramsey reacted the way he did, even if the response itself was not allowed under NFL rules.

Now, not even a full year later, Chase finds himself involved in another heated moment, this time with his own teammates during training camp. Competitive fire is a major part of football, and nobody is questioning Chase’s incredible talent, but moments like this continue to put a spotlight on how he handles his emotions when things get heated.
