It has gotten to a point with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Joey Porter Jr. that has almost entered Le'Veon Bell territory. The main difference between the disgruntled cornerback and the team's former running back is that the ball carrier was not hiding his plans. When the organization listed the defender on Wednesday as a limited participant in practice due to lack of conditioning, everything seemed to change. Instead of ramping up and getting ready to play, the former second-round pick out of Penn State exited the field on Thursday with a training. It would be foolish to think that this was not calculated.

The media has only received a little bit of time to view the Steelers' workouts in-season, so it's very important to mention that Thursday's events all occurred at a time in which they could be seen and reported. After Pittsburgh took off Porter's alleged back injury from the weekly report, it was time for the cornerback to either give in or make things even more complicated.
Now, it seems as if the franchise and defender are at the most challenging roadblock of them all. From the outside looking in, Porter probably feels disrespected to some extent. At the end of the day, however, the NFL is a business. For whatever reason, Omar Khan and Co. are not going to do something that they do not believe is in the best interest of the organization as a whole.
The Pat McAfee Show's Mark Kaboly dove into this on Friday morning with the Steelers' Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots on the horizon. At this stage, he truly believes that this is going to end in an ugly manner. The relationship between the two sides is beyond fixing.
"With the latest development, you have to ask yourself if Porter Jr. is worth the aggravation. He’s never going to play for the Steelers again, or so it seems, so do you take the best offer on the table and trade him, or do you play hardball," Kaboly wrote on X.
The Steelers' options are pretty clear. If other teams know that this is a real rocky situation, another general manager may attempt to low-ball Khan in an effort to pay below market value for Porter. If Pittsburgh wants to, however, it has all of the control with the corner still being on a rookie contract. The front office could let him hang around for the entire season. Kaboly wrote next about what the actual truth is revolving the situation.
"The question is complicated, but it is also a question that has only one answer — no," Kaboly noted. "If the Steelers really wanted him in the first place, they would have offered him a deal that he couldn’t refuse."
It's a fair point. The Steelers clearly didn't offer anything substantial enough for Porter to put pen to paper. This has led to an entire circus that likely has the rest of the league laughing.

The Steelers and Porter are nearing an end of their relationship. It seems like it will be impossible to come back from. The defender wants to be paid, and Pittsburgh thinks the asking price is far too high.
"This relationship can’t be repaired. If it can be, I have no idea how, so my question goes beyond that," Kaboly wrote. "What’s the next move on the Joey Porter Jr. saga? Publicly demanding a trade seems inevitable."
There have been reports about teams calling in to inquire about the availability of the corner. Despite this, nothing has come to fruition. Kaboly believes that the next step in the process will be some kind of public statement from Porter. This would then put the ball back in the franchise's court when it comes to figuring out where to go next.
Steelers And Porter's Respective Sides Taking The Business Angle
For one, Khan and Co. would likely note that they have to take the future into consideration when making decisions such as this. On Porter's side, he could easily argue that his long-term security is of the utmost importance. No one is truly winning in this moment. The Steelers don't have their best corner on the field and Porter hasn't gotten paid.
