The Pittsburgh Steelers have been labeled as a team that should be active on the trade market with the NFL's trade deadline coming up in less than a week. The deadline falls on Tuesday, November 10th and the Steelers are in the middle of their bye week currently and will not play a game this weekend. The organization will be watching as more and more players could become available if teams that are on the brink of being sellers lose in Week 9, which could be perfect for the Steelers. The team is likely looking for some help at wide receiver, either an upgrade in the starting lineup or just additional depth.

Bringing in a wide receiver would be risky no matter what due to the fact that the Steelers would have to give up future draft capital, and it is also a risk because the organization would essentially be betting that whatever receiver is brought in could gel with quarterback Aaron Rodgers immediately. History says that is not an easy task for a wide receiver, however the Steelers should still be exploring the trade market.

There are receivers of several different calibers that are expected to be available around the NFL, and the Steelers should probably be looking for a cheaper, yet reliable option with experience. In a recent article for ESPN, Dan Graziano suggested that a receiver from the Denver Broncos could be available at the right price.

"Who could be on the move? Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr.," Graziano wrote. "Mims is very young (24), and the Broncos likely aren't interested in moving him. But he's in the final year of his contract and has speed and the ability to help in the return game. Teams like young guys who can do multiple things."

Graziano mentioned that Denver is probably not shopping Mims out on the open market, but there is a world where Mims could be expendable. Pittsburgh would probably have to inquire about the receiver and return man specifically, and that could happen. Mims could be seen as a piece that Denver could part with due to the other players the team has at wide receiver.

Currently, the starters in Denver at wide receiver are Jaylen Waddle, Courtland Sutton, and Troy Franklin. Those are some reliable options in the starting lineup that fit every mold a team would want at wide receiver. Second-year wide receiver Pat Bryant is also in the process of returning to the field after a stint on Injured Reserve (IR) due to an ankle injury.

Mims is buried behind all of these names, and Lil'Jordan Humphrey gets more snaps than he does as a reserve at wide receiver. There should be no reason that the Broncos wouldn't part ways with Mims, unless the Broncos would want to hold onto him due to his skills as a returner.

Steelers Could Use Marvin Mims Jr. In More Than One Way

Acquiring Mims could help the Steelers in a lot of ways. He could help the return game by being back with Kaden Wetjen on kickoff returns, and he could be competition for the rookie when it comes to the starting punt return job. Mims was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro twice due to his return abilities. He has also caught over 100 balls in his career.

The Steelers making a big splash at wide receiver seems less and less likely. The team has two players returning off of IR at some point in the foreseeable future, and they would probably be given their roles back upon their return. Mims would be the cheaper, depth piece that the Steelers would probably prefer to land. He wouldn't cost as much as the bigger names that are potentially on the trade market, and he is an unrestricted free agent during the 2027 offseason that shouldn't command too much money if the Steelers would want to bring him back.
