Emotions ran high in the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns, as Aaron Rodgers and TJ Watt voiced their frustrations to the coaching staff on national television. Rodgers is often animated on the field, but his interaction with Mike McCarthy during the game received a cryptic response from the head coach. Watt Grabbed outside linebackers coach CJ Ah You's headset to voice his displeasure with the defensive play-calling. It was just an all-around bad night for the Steelers.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers prepares to throw a pass during a Thursday night football game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season.

Rodgers has always been a highly emotional player on the field, and it's shown a lot this season. With his reunion with McCarthy and familiarity with the offense, his expectations are very high. Rodgers has been far from perfect, but the players around him aren't performing as hoped, and the offense as a whole can't build momentum. Between pass protection breaking down and the wide receivers' inability to beat man coverage, Rodgers has been under a ton of pressure.

The Steelers' bickering has drawn a lot of media attention, with most believing it's a bad look for the organization. Dan Orlovsky recently appeared on Get Up, where he defended Rodgers' antics and blamed the lack of young talent around him and the team's lack of urgency. The Steelers are one of the oldest teams in the NFL, and it's very evident on the field that they lack young talent.

β€œThere's no team in the NFL with less young talent than the Pittsburgh Steelers," Orlovsky stated. "I look at this as like a maniacal urgency. There's only so many games left for Rodgers, but also only so many games left for TJ Watt, Cam Heyward, and Jalen Ramsey. We all know what this season is for Pittsburgh."

The Steelers have drafted plenty of young talent over the years, with George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. being the most notable, but both men are now with the Dallas Cowboys. Their top two wide receivers are DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., both of whom are 28 years old. Both Metcalf and Pittman have struggled a lot in 2026, and Rodgers was even seen using very concerning words toward Pittman after he dropped a tough catch against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Many of the players Pittsburgh relies on are old and past their respective primes. Watt, Cam Heyward, and Jalen Ramsey are all Hall of Fame-caliber names, but not the players they once were. The 2026 campaign was meant to be their last shot at a Super Bowl with Rodger as the QB, and so far that seems highly unlikely. The veterans are doing what they can, but they don't have many young players they can rely on, as Orlovsky mentioned.

No position group on the Steelers has more investment than the offensive line, which has been the biggest disappointment of the season. The coaching staff made the change on the right side of the unit, inserting Brock Hoffman and Max Iheanachor into the starting five. They had a very nice overall showing against the Bengals, but completely regressed against the Browns.

Steelers' Offensive Line Has To Step It Up In 2026

Rodgers is 42, n his 22nd NFL season, and has been sacked a ton. He was taken down five times against Cleveland, and the offensive line was dominated. A consistent theme has been that the offense has not generated ant push in the run game, making the unit one-dimensional. With all of the investment in the group, they must perform better and keep Rodgers upright and healthy.

The collective had moving pieces in the offseason, but four games in, they've had enough time to adjust to their new roles. With Rodgers' age, he won't be able to take this many hits for long; something will have to change, and it starts with the offensive line's play. Pittsburgh has some young talent, but they aren't performing to expectations and aren't the stars fans hoped they'd be.
