The Pittsburgh Steelers had a very productive day through the air on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The offense looked ugly throughout most of the game, but the team got things going as it entered the fourth quarter facing a 16-3 deficit. Pittsburgh clawed back and won the game in overtime, and a big reason for the comeback was quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his connection with some of his top wide receivers. He found rookie Germie Bernard throughout the game as the young player had 11 catches on the day, but DK Metcalf was relatively quiet until the fourth quarter.

Metcalf wasn't featured much on offense throughout the majority of the game, but he came alive in the fourth quarter and in overtime. He finished the day with 11 catches for 93 yards, and a few of those catches were large gains on conversion downs late in the game. He stepped up for the Steelers in a big way, which has not been the case all season. Metcalf has really only had two good games for Pittsburgh, in Tampa Bay and then in Ohio when the Steelers lost to the Cleveland Browns. He has not played well at home in Acrisure Stadium, and 93.7 The Fan host and former NFL player Dorin Dickerson believes there is a reason for that.
"He needs to start playing like a star at home," Dickerson said. "The two games, good games, are on the road. Yeah, I don't think he thinks our fans like him. I think it's in his head, like, 'Man, if I drop one ball, I'm gonna hear it,' or, 'If I mess up one time, I'm gonna hear it.'"
So far in 2026, the Steelers have played three games at home and three games on the road. The split in production between the different venues is evident. At home, Metcalf has caught just 10 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, while on the road he has hauled in 20 passes for 235 yards. This is on the head coach and quarterback as well as Metcalf needs to be involved more early on in games, but there is clearly something going on with the way he is performing in Pittsburgh.

If Metcalf is allowing the fans to get into his head in some way like Dickerson suggested, there is no one to blame but the wide receiver. He has put forth some bad performances as he had some problems with drops to begin the year, and he also had his sideline incident with a fan in Detroit to keep in mind. That got him suspended for two critical games for the Steelers at the end of the 2025 season.
Metcalf just needs to stack some good games and everything will be alright. He has proven he can be an All-Pro-caliber wide receiver before. The fan base in Pittsburgh just wants to see that version of him again. He took a step in the right direction against Tampa Bay.
Steelers' DK Metcalf Needs To Shine Overseas Once Again
What Dickerson was describing seems to be a lack of confidence, and he has played football at a high level so he probably knows what that looks like. Nothing can build Metcalf's confidence better than some strong back-to-back performances. The Steelers are taking on the New Orleans Saints in Paris in Week 7, and Metcalf performed extremely well for the Steelers overseas in 2025. He recorded 126 yards and a touchdown on five catches, including an 80-yard touchdown. He doesn't need to exactly replicate that against New Orleans, but he should be involved throughout the entire game for Pittsburgh.
If Metcalf and Bernard can continue to put together great performances, this offense for the Steelers can actually be viable moving forward, and maybe even dangerous.
What do you think about Dickerson's thoughts on Metcalf's struggles at home? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
