The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to a potential reunion with former wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, but new information suggests the organization has little interest in bringing him back. Pittsburgh's wide receiver situation has generated plenty of discussion, making the possibility of a familiar face returning to the Steel City an intriguing storyline. However, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly has offered a much different explanation for why Smith-Schuster has recently been spotted in Pittsburgh. According to Kaboly, the veteran receiver's presence has nothing to do with the Steelers.

Smith-Schuster remains a recognizable name among Pittsburgh fans after beginning his NFL career with the organization. His connection to the franchise naturally makes him a subject of speculation whenever the Steelers need additional help at wide receiver. With Pittsburgh evaluating its offensive personnel and looking for ways to improve its passing attack, a reunion might appear appealing on the surface. That does not necessarily mean the front office shares the same interest.
Kaboly recently addressed the speculation surrounding Smith-Schuster's presence in Pittsburgh and whether the Steelers were considering bringing him back. His comments directly challenged the idea that the veteran receiver was in town for a potential return to the organization. Kaboly also raised a question about Smith-Schuster's physical condition that could complicate his prospects.
"He is in town for a wedding," Kaboly said. "He's not with the Steelers, and they are not interested in him, to my knowledge. I think he has some wonky knees."
Those comments provide an important distinction between a player being in Pittsburgh and actually having discussions with the Steelers. Smith-Schuster's history with the franchise makes almost any appearance in the city noteworthy, especially when the team is facing questions about its receiving depth. However, Kaboly's account indicates that the visit was personal rather than football-related. The insider also made it clear that, to his knowledge, the Steelers are not pursuing a reunion.

Kaboly's reference to Smith-Schuster's knees is also worth examining carefully. The insider expressed a concern about the veteran's physical condition, but his comments were not a confirmed medical assessment. Without additional information, it would be premature to conclude that an injury is preventing Smith-Schuster from returning to Pittsburgh. Nevertheless, durability is an important consideration for any team evaluating an experienced receiver.
Steelers Appear Uninterested In A JuJu Smith-Schuster Reunion
For the Steelers, the bigger question is how the organization plans to address its receiving corps moving forward. Pittsburgh has reason to explore additional options if the coaching staff believes the offense needs more dependable depth. However, the available opportunities must make sense for the team's current system and long-term plans. A familiar name alone is not enough to justify a roster move.
Smith-Schuster's situation also illustrates how quickly speculation can develop around a former player. When a recognizable receiver appears in the city where he began his career, fans understandably start connecting the dots. That interest can become even stronger when the team has an apparent need at his position. Kaboly's explanation serves as a reminder that not every appearance in Pittsburgh signals an impending transaction.
There is also a difference between the Steelers needing receiving help and the Steelers wanting Smith-Schuster specifically. The organization can recognize an area that needs improvement while still deciding that a particular veteran is not the solution. Pittsburgh's decision-makers must consider fit, availability, expected production, and how a potential addition would affect the rest of the roster. Those considerations could lead the team toward other options.
For Smith-Schuster, the connection to Pittsburgh will likely remain part of his story regardless of whether another opportunity materializes. He built a relationship with the fan base during his time with the Steelers, and that history is not easily forgotten.
However, the possibility of a reunion should be evaluated through actual reporting rather than the excitement surrounding a recognizable name. Kaboly's comments suggest there is currently little reason to expect an agreement.
