The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 6-2 on the 2026 season after a big win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. The Steelers remain undefeated at home by securing the win, and the team is now riding into the bye week pretty high. The group is in first place in the AFC North, and there is a ton of momentum behind the team on both sides of the ball. The week off is going to help the team get healthier, and it also comes at a pretty convenient time as the NFL's trade deadline happens to fall on the Tuesday following the Week 9 games.

Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan looks on during warmups before the game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
The win over the Browns also should give the front office in Pittsburgh a push to go out and acquire some more talent ahead of the deadline. The group is firmly in the playoff race in the AFC, and the team has put itself in a good spot to potentially win the AFC North for the second season in a row. Pittsburgh has not won a playoff game in about a decade, which is well documented, so General Manager Omar Khan should be going out before the deadline to try and shore up any weaknesses.
Wide receiver and the secondary are two obvious spots that could use some more depth, or even an upgrade. There have been a few names mentioned at wide receiver around the league including the likes of Brian Thomas Jr. and Josh Downs, but the Steelers could also go big-fish hunting by going after a guy like Garrett Wilson. NFL insider Jason La Canfora recently spoke about this during an interview with CasinoGuru.
"I'd keep an eye on the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are being pretty ambitious, I'm told, behind the scenes, and would love to add another playmaker," La Canfora said. "DK Metcalf has some limitations in the routes he runs. You can bring in someone like Garrett Wilson with the tight ends they have, with a back like Jaylen Warren, who can catch a lot of balls, with DK Metcalf running those go routes on the outside. That could be interesting."
This would be quite an ambitious trade if it is something that Khan and the front office actually pursues and pulls off. This would add a third large wide receiver contract on the books for Pittsburgh, and Wilson would be signed through the 2030 season, meaning that money would be significant over the next five years or so.

Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) and wide receiver Garrett Wilson (5) talk on the field during the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
The Steelers already have DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. signed to big money deals at receiver, and neither has really come close to living up to the value they signed for in Pittsburgh. Adding another wide receiver that would be owed a ton of money could be risky, but it could be exactly what the team might need to get over the hump in the postseason. He is also younger and offers more upside than Metcalf or Pittman.
All of the national insiders have been very adamant that the New York Jets are not trying to deal Wilson, but La Canfora has been consistent in saying the opposite. He has reported that the executives he has spoken to believe that the organization would deal Wilson, and the Jets already showed in 2025 that they would get rid of valuable players as they traded both Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.
Steelers Would Have To Clear A Few Hurdles To Land Garrett Wilson
There are some issues with the idea of acquiring Wilson. The first would obviously be the risk the Steelers would be taking on. This starts with the draft capital that would have to be given up to bring Wilson in. Giving up a first-round pick along with more selections isn't necessarily a great move for a franchise without the quarterback position filled for the next few years. The value of Wilson's contract is also a problem, as is his relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The two played together with the Jets, but things did not end on the best terms.
What do you think about Wilson potentially coming to Pittsburgh? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
