The Pittsburgh Steelers may have another veteran wide receiver worth considering before the NFL trade deadline, and Stefon Diggs is a name that deserves attention if the Washington Commanders decide to sell.

Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh joined 93.7 The Fan recently and brought up the possibility of Pittsburgh pursuing the veteran receiver.
"Stefon Diggs, that's a name I think you should think about," Farabaugh said.
That suggestion is interesting given the Steelers' need for more consistent production from their passing attack. While DK Metcalf gives Pittsburgh a legitimate outside threat, the offense could benefit from another experienced receiver capable of creating separation and making plays in important situations.
Diggs is no longer the same receiver who dominated defenses during his best years with the Buffalo Bills, but he has continued to show that he can contribute. At 32 years old, he may not represent a long-term solution, but he could provide an immediate boost to a team looking to make a postseason push.
There is also a potential opportunity developing in Washington. If the Commanders determine that their season is not heading in the right direction, moving a veteran like Diggs could become a reasonable option rather than keeping him through the remainder of the year.
The Commanders have several reasons to at least consider their options with Diggs. Washington signed the receiver to a one-year contract after his productive 2025 campaign with the New England Patriots. With his contract situation approaching another decision, the organization could explore the possibility of receiving draft compensation before potentially losing him in free agency.
Washington's direction will be important in determining whether a trade makes sense. If the Commanders believe they can compete for a playoff spot, keeping Diggs would obviously make more sense. However, if their season begins to slip, moving an older receiver on an expiring contract could help them prioritize younger players and future assets.
Through six appearances in the 2026 season, Diggs has recorded 27 receptions for 252 yards and five touchdowns. His yardage numbers are not particularly impressive, but his touchdown production shows that he can still be a factor around the goal line. His career résumé is considerably more impressive. Diggs has earned five Pro Bowl selections and one first-team All-Pro selection while recording 969 receptions for 11,756 yards and 79 touchdowns through the end of the 2025 season.
His best statistical season came in 2020 with Buffalo, when he led the NFL with 127 receptions and 1,535 receiving yards. He also recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons from 2020 through 2023.
Diggs followed that stretch with another productive campaign in 2025, finishing with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games with New England. That was an encouraging performance considering he was returning from the torn ACL he suffered during the 2024 season. For Pittsburgh, those numbers demonstrate the level of production Diggs has been capable of providing throughout his career.
The Steelers would have to evaluate his remaining salary and determine whether Washington's asking price is reasonable, but the circumstances could create an opportunity to acquire a proven receiver without paying the price typically associated with a younger star.
Diggs Could Give Steelers' Passing Attack Another Dimension
Pittsburgh already has Metcalf, but having another receiver who can consistently win his individual matchups would make life more difficult for opposing defenses. Rather than concentrating their coverage on Metcalf, defenses would have to account for Diggs as well.

His route-running ability is arguably his biggest strength. Diggs has built his career on creating openings through precise routes, changes of direction and an understanding of defensive coverages. Those qualities could be particularly valuable for a Steelers offense that needs more consistency when throwing the football.
He would also give Aaron Rodgers another experienced target who understands how to operate against different defensive looks. Diggs has played with several quarterbacks throughout his career and has demonstrated an ability to produce in multiple offensive systems. There is also value in adding someone with his postseason experience and established reputation. Diggs has been part of high-level offenses and understands what it takes to compete against the league's better defenses.
Farabaugh's suggestion is certainly worth monitoring as the trade deadline approaches. Washington may ultimately decide that keeping Diggs gives it the best chance to compete, but if the Commanders become sellers, Pittsburgh should at least investigate the possibility.
