The Pittsburgh Steelers have an interesting opportunity in front of them, and General Manager Omar Khan might have more options at wide receiver than fans realize. Pittsburgh is 6-2 entering its bye week, riding a four-game winning streak that has completely changed the conversation surrounding Mike McCarthy's team. While the Steelers have found ways to win without consistent production from their receivers, the possibility of adding another weapon remains intriguing. Now, insider Mark Kaboly has identified five potential targets that deserve attention.

The Steelers have been linked to several receivers throughout the season, but identifying an available player at the right price is another challenge entirely. Pittsburgh already has DK Metcalf, but injuries and inconsistent production have created questions about the depth behind him. Aaron Rodgers has leaned heavily on his tight ends and running backs to keep the offense moving. Another reliable receiver could give McCarthy additional flexibility without forcing him to abandon what is already working.

Kaboly recently offered an interesting assessment of Pittsburgh's potential trade options, including one receiver who might be available for surprisingly modest compensation. The insider believes Indianapolis Colts wideout Josh Downs makes considerable sense for the Steelers. However, he also named four other receivers he believes Khan has explored as Pittsburgh evaluates the market.

"Colts receiver Josh Downs seems like a perfect fit in terms of availability and price. Being on an expiring contract, a third-day pick might be the price," Kaboly said.

That assessment immediately makes Downs one of the more interesting names to monitor. A Day 3 selection would mean surrendering a pick from the fourth through seventh rounds, which represents a manageable investment for a team hoping to make a postseason run. Of course, Kaboly was offering an estimated price rather than reporting an agreed-upon asking price from Indianapolis.

Downs would also bring a different element to Pittsburgh's receiving corps. He has demonstrated an ability to work underneath and find openings in coverage, something that could complement Metcalf's physical presence. Rodgers doesn't necessarily need another receiver who commands the entire offense. He needs dependable options capable of creating separation when defenses take away his preferred targets.

However, Downs was hardly the only name Kaboly mentioned. His assessment suggested Pittsburgh's front office has considered a much wider collection of possibilities than one particular player.

"Brian Thomas Jr., Jauan Jennings, Calvin Ridley, Ladd McConkey, or whoever is available has been explored by Khan; you can be assured of that," Kaboly said.

That is an intriguing collection of names because the receivers offer different skill sets and would likely carry different acquisition costs. Thomas possesses exciting downfield ability, while Jennings has built a reputation as a physical receiver who can contribute in demanding situations. Ridley offers veteran experience, and McConkey provides another potential option for creating separation.

There is an important distinction between exploring a player and having a realistic opportunity to acquire him. Kaboly's comments shouldn't be interpreted as confirmation that all four receivers are available or that Pittsburgh has submitted trade offers. Nevertheless, his confidence that Khan has evaluated multiple possibilities suggests the Steelers aren't limiting their thinking to one solution.

Steelers Insider Believes Omar Khan Has A Golden Opportunity

What makes Kaboly's assessment especially interesting is how he views Pittsburgh's position entering the second half of the season. The Steelers aren't desperately searching for someone to rescue a disappointing campaign. They are winning football games and attempting to strengthen an already competitive roster.

Kaboly believes that distinction should influence how Pittsburgh approaches the trade market.

"Now is the time to make that move because they need to be all in, not like a .500 team needing a spark, but like a team that just whipped the Browns and has more wins than anyone in the league midway through the year," Kaboly said.

That is a different way of looking at the Steelers' receiving situation. Pittsburgh doesn't necessarily need to acquire the biggest name available to make a meaningful improvement. Sometimes, the most valuable addition is the player who fills a specific role without demanding major changes to the offense.
