The Pittsburgh Steelers are generating a ton of buzz in the media after starting their 2026 season with a record of 6-2 and a huge get-back win against the Cleveland Browns. Fans have seen this exact story before: Pittsburgh starting the season hot and, come January, having no gas left in the tank. So even though they rank first in the AFC North and seem to have control of the division, fans and media are still skeptical and wonder: are the Steelers really legit?

Steelers' Cam Heyward celebrates a big play during a win over the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium in 2026.
Pittsburgh is riding a four-game win streak, Aaron Rodgers' longest since his days with the Green Bay Packers. Their wins have been far from perfect, but they are winning games by dominating in the trenches, which is unusual compared to recent history. The trench warfare is a big reason for optimism heading into the second half of the season.
In their most recent win, they dominated the Browns 27-6, with the offensive line taking complete control of the game. With over 200 rushing yards on offense and a stingy defense, Pittsburgh is on a great trajectory, and one former Steeler believes that if they can sustain it, they'll add another Lombardi Trophy to the collection.
On his show, Deebo & Joe, James Harrison said that if the Steelers can keep things the way they are, there's no reason they shouldn't win the Super Bowl in February.
"Dude, I'm telling you right now, if we're able to stay in this trajectory, I don't see why we shouldn't be sitting here passing around a Lombardi."
Harrison noted earlier in the episode that teams can win in the regular season, but it's the playoffs that matter. With their current trajectory, the Steelers should make the playoffs without issue, and Harrison believes that if they keep playing the way they are, they could be Super Bowl-bound for the first time since the 2010 campaign.

Current Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy embraces Mike Tomlin before Super Bowl XLV.
While many are riding the high of a four-game winning streak, it's important to note the competition they've beaten. The Browns are the only team the Steelers beat that had a winning record, and Pittsburgh dropped a game to them in October. The competition hasn't been great, but the team has improved each week and seems to be much better coached.
The new coaching staff led by Mike McCarthy is the difference-maker. After seeing Mike Tomlin's last few seasons, when he had clearly lost his touch, McCarthy's team looks night-and-day different, even with mostly the same roster. The hires of James Campen, Patrick Graham, and Domata Peko are paying off huge, and the results speak for themselves.
Steelers Are Due To Finally Win At Least 1 Playoff Game
Harrison may be jumping the gun on a Super Bowl win, but it's very possible for the Steelers to break their playoff win drought this season. The remaining schedule looks much easier than it did at the start of the season. The Baltimore Ravens may have Lamar Jackson, but aside from that, all games are winnable, which could leave the Steelers with a higher seed.
The Steelers have gotten a poor playoff draw, as they've typically faced the top wild-card team or the one of the better division winners. This is the season in which they can certainly get a top-three seed and face the seventh or sixth seed. This would also be a home game, and they are undefeated through four games.
If the Steelers make a move at the NFL trade deadline, their chances would only improve. Whether they decide to add to their roster is still to be determined. They have plenty of needs, like a cornerback or a wide receiver. At 6-2, they should be looking to bolster these groups.
Anything can happen in the NFL, and while the Steelers aren't likely to win the Super Bowl, they should be more than capable of breaking their playoff win drought. While they sit in their bye week, the Sunday Night Football matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals should be a great test of how they respond when their momentum stalls.
