Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan was trying his hardest to upgrade Pittsburgh's wide receiver room ahead of the 2024 season. Ultimately, no major moves were made as the organization was in strong pursuit of San Francisco 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk, but the receiver wound up signing a lucrative extension to stay in California. Khan was also aggressive at the trade deadline during the 2024 season, and the general manager should be expected to have the same mindset during the 2025 offseason.

Khan spoke to the media on Tuesday ahead of the 2025 NFL Combine, and he discussed various needs throughout the roster in Pittsburgh. Wide receiver is not a position he highlighted when speaking about the upcoming draft, which could mean the organization is planning on attacking that position through free agency or the trade market. There should be several options for the Steelers to look into, but ESPN analyst Dominique Foxworth predicted that Pittsburgh will land Tyreek Hill from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday morning during an appearance on Get Up.
"Maybe Tyreek Hill to the Steelers," Foxworth said. "I think they still need a consistent threat as much as they may like George Pickens. He's not always the player that they want him to be. I think Tyreek Hill, given the history of that organization and how they've made the best of some eccentric receivers, I guess I'll put it, Tyreek Hill could fit in nicely there because they still need some explosiveness out of that position. And some reliability, frankly. And his speed is reliable."
It is important to note that Foxworth made this prediction during a segment discussing shocking trades that could happen. This isn't likely to happen, but it may be on the table. Hill had one of his worst seasons as a pro as he put up his lowest yardage total while starting every game for Miami in 2024. The Dolphins had some quarterback issues after Tua Tagovailoa went down early in the year with a concussion, but Hill seemed like a shell of himself for most of the year.

There is no doubt that adding a player like Hill would improve the passing game in Pittsburgh, however he would be costly. Hill is signed through the 2026 season, and his expected cap hit over the next two seasons is just over $80 million. The extension he signed in Miami was restructured which made the deal backloaded, this explains why the cap hit is so large.
Something would have to be worked out contractually between Miami and Pittsburgh for the Steelers to even consider this deal, especially when Khan would likely have to give up some draft assets in order to acquire Hill. The idea of hill suiting up in the black and gold is fun, but it just isn't probable. He is far too expensive, and he will be 31-years old when the 2025 season kicks off. Add in the fact that he has been a distraction to his own team at times, and this deal seems like one Pittsburgh should stay away from.

Steelers Need A Different Style Of Receiver
A lot of what will happen at wide receiver depends on the future of George Pickens. The wide receiver could be traded, but as of now, signs are pointing to him being on the roster in 2026, as well as 2025. He is one of the top deep threats in the league, which is an area that Hill specializes in. Pittsburgh already has speed with Calvin Austin III, and what the roster is really missing is a wide receiver with elite route running that can get open on all areas of the field. Hill doesn't exactly meet that criteria, although he would be a major addition in Pittsburgh.
