Rodgers, never one to shy away from headlines, made the announcement with his usual flair, sending shockwaves through the NFL and igniting a firestorm of excitement in Pittsburgh. Rodgers has made a myriad of interesting and controversial comments throughout his career, and that has not stopped since he joined the Steelers. His latest remarks, however, have fans more intrigued than anything else. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers spoke about the young talent on Pittsburgh’s roster, hinting that several lesser-known players are poised to have breakout seasons in 2025. With his veteran eye and football IQ, Rodgers’ words carry weight, and Steeler Nation is listening closely.

While Rodgers did not name names, his comments sparked plenty of speculation. Based on the current depth chart and recent offseason buzz, it is not hard to figure out who he might be referring to. Young wide receivers looking to step into bigger roles, promising defenders flying under the radar, and second-year players hungry to prove themselves are all in the mix. As training camp approaches, the players likely on Rodgers' mind are quickly becoming the ones Steeler Nation will be watching most.

Darnell Washington is the first player that comes to mind when you think about someone who could be in for a breakout season thanks to Rodgers being in the Steel City. Rodgers has been very complimentary of the 6'7" tight end. Washington was drafted by the Steelers because of his ability as a blocking tight end, but many have been curious if he can be more involved in the passing attack.

There have been reports that Washington has made big improvements in that area during the offseason. Rodgers had high praise for Washington, and while he is not a secret player, he is someone who has not had much production so far in his Steelers career. That could change with Rodgers in town.

Roman Wilson is an obvious option here, as he was drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. There were heavy expectations that Wilson could come in as a rookie and make an impact. He dealt with injury early and was unable to jump on the moving train. While Wilson isn’t a secret player on this roster, he is one player who truly could have a breakout season with Rodgers helping him.

Another obvious player, but someone who must be mentioned, is Calvin Austin III. He has shown flashes of potential with speed that cannot be taught. In the 2024 season, Austin demonstrated just how good he can be with his ability to return kicks as well as his production. Austin caught 36 passes for 548 yards and four touchdowns. He should shatter that production in 2025 with Rodgers.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Confident In The Skill Players

Rodgers could also be hinting at players on the offensive line, such as Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick, or other young prospects. The Steelers have plenty of potential on their young offensive line, and it’s possible Rodgers has been impressed by their progress. He might also be referring to the running back room, which features new faces like Kenneth Gainwell and rookie Kaleb Johnson. He also very well could be talking about the young players on that defense.

It’s exciting to hear Rodgers’ comments and his enthusiasm about the playmakers on this roster. While many outside the organization feel the Steelers need help on offense, Rodgers believes the team has several candidates poised for breakout seasons in 2025. Which players do you think Rodgers was talking about?
