Steelers Fans Get The Truth About Pittsburgh's Future Roster Moves: "They're Always Looking"

The Pittsburgh Steelers are clearly looking to win now, and that has been displayed by the litany of moves made by the organization throughout the 2025 offseason. The first shock came just before free agency started when Pittsburgh acquired DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks via trade, which eventually led to the Steelers trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. There has been a ton of roster shakeup, and the most important position has been turned over once again as Aaron Rodgers will be lining up under center for the Steelers to start the 2025 season.

Pittsburgh also recently added to its aggressive offseason by acquiring Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins, which forced the Steelers to give up star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The deal was the biggest trade of the offseason for the league, and it further showed Pittsburgh's commitment to winning. Fans want the moves to keep coming, but there is a good chance that the Steelers are done making any drastic changes.

Top NFL insider Adam Schefter recently went on the radio show Rothman & Ice, and he essentially shut down any idea that the Steelers would be making more moves.

"I think they're always looking, but I think that they've made their moves," Schefter said. "I don't have any more moves they can make. They've made a ton of moves so far."

Schefter is widely regarded as the most tapped-in reporter in the NFL, and he doesn't believe there are any other moves that the Steelers would be interested in making. There are certainly some parts of the roster that the fan base would like to see get addressed and upgraded, but Schefter believes Pittsburgh is content to head into training camp with the roster configured the way it is currently.

The two areas that could be upgraded are wide receiver and safety. The departure of Fitzpatrick makes the free safety spot a little unreliable, but Ramsey is versatile enough to move back there if needed, and Pittsburgh signed Juan Thornhill during free agency, who has won two Super Bowls while playing free safety.

The Steelers have some options if the organization wanted to add at wide receiver. Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, and Gabe Davis are all still available on the open market, and any of those options should be able to produce for Pittsburgh. The franchise brought in Davis for a visit earlier in the offseason, but he left the building without a deal. If Schefter is saying that no more moves are likely, it probably means that Pittsburgh is not interested in any of the current options available in free agency.

A trade could still be on the table, but the insider has not heard any rumblings about that either. This is the point in the year where executives and the coaching staff will probably just want to head into training camp to see what they have on the roster, and adjustments will be made from there.

Steelers Could Be Forced To Add To The Roster Moving Forward

The wide receiver position is full of question marks for Pittsburgh, but it also lacks depth. Roman Wilson missed just about his entire rookie season in 2024 and Calvin Austin III has struggled with injuries in the past. If anyone goes down at that position during training camp, the Steelers might be acting quick to sign one of the available free agents on the market.

Pittsburgh could also wait till the end of training camp when teams are forced to cut their rosters down to 53 players. By that point, some quality wide receivers may have been released by some receiver-rich teams, which could give Pittsburgh the option to add some depth to their roster for cheap.
