The Pittsburgh Steelers have made several surprising moves this offseason, leaving everyone wondering what they are going to do next. With a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young rookies, the team has taken a fresh approach to staying competitive, while also building for the future. As the regular season draws closer, there's growing excitement to see how all the new pieces will come together on the field. However, despite all the additions, a few key gaps still remain in the roster, leaving people with lingering questions about how those will be addressed.

One of the most discussed topics is the wide receiver position. The Steelers added powerhouse veteran DK Metcalf, but after the departure of former star wide receiver George Pickens, a gap still remains. While several names have been mentioned as potential additions, one of the latest is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Recently, Steelers insider Brian Batko hosted a fan chat session, and when asked about the chances of Jennings showing up at training camp, this was Batko’s response.

"I'll go 4% chance Jauan Jennings is there," Batko wrote.

Jennings is not currently a free agent, but reports suggest he is seeking either a new contract or a potential trade. Given the Steelers’ current gap at the wide receiver position, it would be surprising if they didn’t at least explore the possibility of bringing him in. Steelers General Manager Omar Khan has recently received praise for his open-minded approach to available players. Since Jennings appears to be unhappy with his situation, he could fall into that possibly available category, making him someone worth keeping an eye on.

Jennings is a strong and dependable wide receiver who plays with toughness and grit. He became known with the 49ers for making key catches on important downs, especially third down plays. Jennings is a solid route-runner, has reliable hands, and is willing to block, which are skills that fit well in a balanced offensive system like the Steelers'. If Jennings came to Pittsburgh, he could be a reliable target for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and bring more physicality to the receiving group.

By bringing in Rodgers for what is likely to be his final NFL season, the Steelers are trying to surround him with as many offensive weapons as possible. At 41 years old, Rodgers is the oldest active player in the league. While his Hall of Fame legacy is likely already locked, giving him plenty of support increases the chances of a successful season in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers May Not Add Anyone New At All

There have been plenty of questions this offseason about how the Steelers would address the wide receiver position, with many expecting them to pursue a free agent or explore potential trade options. However, it’s becoming increasingly possible that the Steelers won’t make any additional moves, as they appear to be content with the talent they already have on the roster. In a recent interview, Steelers Wide Receivers Coach Zach Azzanni confirmed that Calvin Austin III is currently considered the team’s wide receiver two (WR2). Austin, who was drafted by Pittsburgh just a few seasons ago, now has a real opportunity to step up and take on a larger role in the offense.

Metcalf is clearly locked in as the Steelers' WR1, and now the team is closely looking at who can line up alongside him. In today’s NFL, having a strong duo at wide receiver is more important than ever, especially with how fast, skilled, and strategic modern defenses have become.

Defenders are quick to recognize patterns and read the plays, which makes having multiple reliable receiving threats a key to keeping opponents guessing. By having a solid receiving duo, the Steelers can create more opportunities and keep defenses from focusing all their attention on Metcalf alone.
