The Pittsburgh Steelers have made the 'Seven Shots' drill a staple of their training camp, showcasing their competitive spirit and determination in one of the most intense practice moments of the year. This drill pits the offense and defense against each other in seven goal-line plays from the two-yard line, simulating high-pressure situations that often decide games. It’s a fast-paced, physical battle where every play matters and players leave everything on the field.

The offense’s goal during the Seven Shots drill is to score as many touchdowns as possible, while the defense fights to hold them back and make crucial stops. The drill is more than just practice. It’s a proving ground for players to demonstrate their skill, toughness, and ability to perform under pressure. Fans and coaches alike pay close attention to how the units execute, as it often reveals who is ready to step up during the season. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin is obviously a huge fan of the drill and makes it a daily tradition at camp.
Each of the seven plays brings a new moment of excitement, strategy, and intense effort. As the offense pushes to punch the ball into the end zone, the defense counters with relentless resistance. Let’s break down exactly what happened on each play of this Friday's Seven Shots drill to see who came out on top and what it means for the Steelers moving forward.

Steeler Nation’s Brandon Wallace was on site at training camp to watch the Seven Shots drill unfold firsthand. He provided in-depth coverage, giving Steelers fans an exclusive look at how the drill played out.
On the first snap, Zach Frazier struggled with a low snap, causing the play to be immediately blown dead. That moment gave fans a brief flashback to some of the center issues the team faced in the past. Fortunately, Frazier is seen as a star in the making, and this was just a minor mistake.
Play two brought some excitement for Steelers fans hoping to see more of this in the 2025 season. Aaron Rodgers connected with DK Metcalf for a touchdown. On the third play, Rodgers attempted a fade to Metcalf but was unable to complete the pass, as cornerback Joey Porter Jr. defended well.
Mason Rudolph took over at quarterback on play four and targeted Ke’Shawn Williams, but the pass fell incomplete. Rudolph bounced back on play five with a quick touchdown pass to Scotty Miller. On play six, Rudolph threw another incomplete pass. The rookie Will Howard came in on play seven and connected with tight end JJ Galbreath for a touchdown. Rodgers returned for play eight and found tight end Pat Freiermuth in the end zone for another score. Both offense and defense ended the drill with four points each unofficially, but apparently one of play defensive wins against Howard (play 6) was not counted. That resulted in the offense winning 4-3.
