The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves entering the 2025 season with one of the more promising running back rooms in all of football. Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson are expected to split the majority of the workload in the backfield, as many feel like the Steelers could emerge with an elite one-two punch at running back. Recently released Steelers running back Cordarrelle Patterson however, took to X on Monday to share his thoughts on some recent news.

Patterson, 34, was a solid offensive weapon throughout his prime and was a key part of the Minnesota Vikings' offense during his time with the team early on in his career. A four-time Pro Bowler, Patterson didn't suit up for a single practice throughout the entire first week of training camp for Pittsburgh, as the veteran wasn't present during the entire course of minicamp as well. Patterson was expected to play a minor role in the Steelers' offense if the team decided to keep him, as the former Viking will now look to evaluate other available options in hopes of finding a new team before the start of the new season.

As fans continue to voice their opinions on social media, Patterson added his commentary.

Patterson was referring to a fan asking why his release took so long, as the veteran emphatically agreed to ask the same question. Warren and Johnson however, are expected to thrive in 2025 regardless of Patterson's presence, as both rising stars are set to play a crucial role this season.

Patterson may sign with a new team in the near future, as the running back would serve as an excellent mentor for any young running back room around the league. Patterson was more than likely hoping to be released earlier in the offseason, as not participating throughout training camp was more than likely the final straw for General Manager Omar Khan and his staff.

With Patterson officially out of Pittsburgh, both Warren and Johnson find themselves with virtually no competition in the Steelers' running back room outside of each other. Warren enters 2025 as a starting running back for the first time in his career, as the young back is expected to thrive while no longer playing behind Najee Harris. Johnson, a third round selection in this year's NFL Draft, is a promising rookie who is slated to take on a massive workload throughout his rookie season. Kenneth Gainwell is another running back addition as well who is expected to be a crucial third down back throughout the upcoming season.

Johnson was a star on the college level as well, as the rookie played a major role in Iowa's success throughout his time with the program. Warren is expected to be Pittsburgh's top running back throughout the season, but Johnson is widely considered to be an underrated weapon at Arthur Smith's disposal. With both Warren and Johnson set to thrive this year, along with Gainwell, the Steelers may find themselves with one of the most underrated offensive units in all of football.

As Patterson continues to express his thoughts regarding his release on X, fans continue to share their excitement towards the new one-two punch in the Steelers' backfield. Patterson may sign with a team sooner rather than later, as missed practices throughout minicamp and training camp played a major role in the veteran's release from the team. With the start of the regular season continuing to grow closer, fans should continue to keep a close eye on Pittsburgh's running back room throughout the course of training camp.
