The Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver room is once again causing a lot of concern leading up to the 2025 NFL season. When the Steelers drafted wide receiver Roman Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the hope was that he could come in and produce right away. Unfortunately, Wilson’s rookie season was essentially a redshirt year as he struggled with injury and was unable to make a significant impact on the field.

Now, Wilson will be tasked with being productive in his second season, and many expect him to be able to do just that, especially with Aaron Rodgers now in town. Rodgers’ arrival brings a veteran presence and a wealth of experience to the offense, which could help boost Wilson’s development and confidence. The Steelers are counting on Wilson to step up and provide the reliable wide receiver support the team desperately needs.
During a media session on Wednesday, Rodgers spoke candidly about Wilson’s potential and the challenges ahead. He delivered an honest and powerful message, encouraging Wilson to stay focused and not let anything hold him back. Rodgers’ mentorship could be the key for Wilson to finally break through and become a productive force in the Steelers’ offense.
"I got to get Ro [Wilson] out of his head a little bit," Rodgers said in a very honest message to the media. "I think he’s such a good kid. He cares so much about whether it’s my approval or he’s doing it right. He’s just got to trust himself because he’s so da** talented."
Rodgers wants Wilson to get out of his own way a little bit. It is natural for a player like Wilson, who prides himself on making his teammates happy and doing all the little things right, to worry about how he is making Rodgers feel.

It sounds like Rodgers wants Wilson to stop asking for his approval and to know that he trusts his ability to play care-free. Rodgers also made sure to highlight just how talented he believes the second year wide receiver to be.
"The more that he can play free and not think out there, the better he’s going to play," Rodgers said. "The more he can just trust what he’s got and just go out and react, the better he’s going to play."
Rodgers is a player who is deeply in tune with the mental side of the game, and it sounds like he wants Wilson to develop that same mindset and start trusting himself more. It’s exciting for Steelers fans to hear Rodgers speak so highly of Wilson’s potential and talent. However, the updates coming out of camp about Wilson have been somewhat mixed.
Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Taking Care Of Young Wide Receiver Roman Wilson
Some days, Wilson is making spectacular catches that show his promise, while other days he seems to be struggling a bit. This inconsistency is very natural for a young wide receiver trying to find his footing in the NFL. The Steelers’ offense doesn’t need to be elite in 2025, but it does need to be solidly above average. To achieve that, having Wilson perform at his best will be absolutely pivotal.

Rodgers understands this well, and that’s why he made these candid comments on Wednesday. He knows the importance of Wilson stepping up and playing with confidence, and he is clearly invested in helping him get there. It’s awesome for Steeler Nation to hear how much Rodgers cares about helping his younger teammates improve. All eyes will be firmly fixed on Wilson and this offense as the highly anticipated 2025 season continues to rapidly approach.
