The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for an exciting 2025 NFL season led by some new faces. The biggest is clearly on the offensive side of the ball in Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf. The two are expected to form an exciting duo, but still, many pundits aren’t sure what to expect from Pittsburgh in 2025. While Head Coach Mike Tomlin always finds a way to avoid a losing season, the 2025 campaign is going to be his greatest test yet with so many new players in critical spots.

There is no doubt that Rodgers and Metcalf have the potential to change the entire identity of the Steelers’ offense. Rodgers brings experience and poise to a team that has long searched for consistency at quarterback, while Metcalf provides the kind of dominant playmaker on the outside who can tilt the field in Pittsburgh’s favor.

With Tomlin tasked with blending these stars into his and Arthur Smith's system, expectations are high, but the margin for error remains slim. Even former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger chimed in on his podcast Footbahlin, predicting that the team will finish 11-6 and head into the postseason with serious momentum.

"Last game of the season, Ravens here," Roethlisberger said. "It’s a win to the Steelers. We are sweeping the Ravens this year. Here’s one of the reasons why: the Ravens have likely already locked up a playoff spot. They may not play guys and we are going to get this win. We are going to go into the postseason with five straight wins… Which is exactly what you wanna be doing. You wanna go in hot… That gets us to 11-6."

Roethlisberger has the Steelers losing on Thursday Night Football on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football, and suffering additional losses to the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears, and the New England Patriots. He also predicts a defeat against the Buffalo Bills. Those are where Roethlisberger believes the Steelers will pick up their six losses in 2025.

Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger meets with former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers before a home game.

While Roethlisberger tried to be as unbiased as possible, he has the Steelers sweeping both the Baltimore Ravens and the Cleveland Browns. In typical Roethlisberger fashion, he joked that the two games against Cleveland are basically byes.

In his career, Roethlisberger posted a 26-2-1 record against the Browns, dominating them throughout his time in the league. He often enjoys making jokes about Cleveland on his podcast, but his predictions still carry weight. Perhaps the most surprising of all is that he believes the Steelers will beat the high-powered Detroit Lions.

Steelers Heading Into Strange But Exciting 2025 Season

The expectations in Pittsburgh are uncertain because of all the new faces, though fans will certainly expect nothing less than a Super Bowl in the 2025 season. Still, questions about chemistry, health, and how quickly everything can come together will hang over Pittsburgh until the season unfolds.

Rodgers may be one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the league, but at this stage of his career, he must prove he can still deliver at a high level week after week. Metcalf, meanwhile, will need to thrive in a new environment and build trust with his quarterback from day one. Tomlin’s track record suggests he will find a way to keep the Steelers competitive, but 2025 feels like a season that could either exceed expectations or test the limits of even his steady leadership.
