Super Bowl Champion Has Great Concern While Watching The Steelers In 2025: "It's Just Not Good"

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one win through two weeks of the 2025 regular season, but many are reacting as if the sky is falling in Pittsburgh. The team looks nothing like was expected as the offense has not seemed to improve much at all as the run game continues to struggle. Aaron Rodgers is consistently under pressure when he drops back, and the defense is playing nowhere near the level it needs to be. It is hard to be optimistic about the rest of the season, as far too many areas of the roster need to show improvement in order to consider Pittsburgh a playoff contender.

Pittsburgh is preparing for its Week 3 matchup against the New England Patriots after losing in Week 2 in embarrassing fashion to the Seattle Seahawks. The Steelers desperately need a win, despite only having one loss so far, and the team also needs a strong defensive performance.

Former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Phil Simms spoke about the current state of the Steelers on the most recent episode of his podcast Simms Complete, and the retired signal-caller is disappointed in what he has seen from the franchise.

"The offensive line's playing awful," Simms said. "They can't run the ball. The defense is not playing well at all. I watched the game yesterday, and I literally was watching it going, 'Oh my gosh. This is the Steelers.' Giving up plays, not even close to what I expect. And then there's Aaron Rodgers, he threw some of the most ridiculously great throws. The guy can just stand there like this with his hand and go 40 yards. It's unbelievable. And he needs those big old grippers because he's running for his life back there. It's amazing. There's Aaron Rodgers, he's gonna be 42, and he's going, 'D*mn, l've never taken beatings like this in my life?' It's just not good."

Simms seemed to be negative about every part of the Steelers aside from Rodgers at quarterback. He is amazed by some of the throws Rodgers is still able to make, especially with the pressure he is facing. He was clearly upset with the way the defense was playing throughout the first two games of the season, and the offensive line is an obvious issue.

Everyone seems to know that the offensive line is a major problem in Pittsburgh, however Head Coach Mike Tomlin continues to act like he is impressed with the growth he is seeing from the group. The young players on the line are clearly not developing in the way that they need to be, which is very condemning of the coaching staff. Coaches are responsible for teaching players while also putting them in proper position to succeed, and that just has not been happening in Pittsburgh.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Has Been Playing Well In Pittsburgh

Simms clearly believes that Rodgers is playing great in Pittsburgh considering what he is dealing with. The offensive line is inconsistent at best, yet Rodgers is still finding ways to get the ball to his weapons while keeping the offense moving. Week 1 was better for the offense and the quarterback than Week 2 was, but his performance in both games was decent. He threw two picks against Seattle, but neither was really his fault as one ball was tipped and the other was a desperation heave at the end of the game. The week prior he fired four touchdown passes, and he already has five on the season.

Hopefully Rodgers' decent play can continue, and the offensive line and defense can get back up to the standard. That is the only chance Pittsburgh has at competing in the AFC.
