The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in trade rumors, but for a wide receiver. With the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching on November 4th, the Steelers have been one of the most talked about teams. With Aaron Rodgers looking solid even at 41 years old, many pundits believe the Steelers need to get him another weapon opposite DK Metcalf

All eyes are on the Steelers’ offense, but the bigger concern is on defense. The Steelers’ defense was widely expected to be one of the best units in the league heading into the 2025 season. After six games, however, that same defense has been one of the leakiest in the NFL, leaving many to wonder if even a wide receiver trade is truly what this team needs right now.

However, a new position has entered the conversation, and it involves one of Rodgers’ former running backs with the New York Jets. Emory Hunt joined John Breech on CBS Sports HQ to break down potential landing spots for Breece Hall at the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline, and Hunt believes the Steelers should make a move to land Hall.

"I think this would make the Steelers the favorite in the AFC North," Hunt said Thursday while speaking with Breech on CBS Sports HQ. "When you look at what Breece Hall is, he's a combination of what they have in Kaleb Johnson and also Kenneth Gainwell, with a little bit of Jaylen Warren, because he's a combination of all three. He's explosive, he can catch the ball out of the backfield, he has great vision, good footwork, and he's a home run threat. It really balances out the offense."

It is an interesting idea, but also a surprising one. The Steelers already have a strong trio of running backs in Jaylen Warren, Kenneth Gainwell, and rookie Kaleb Johnson

Steelers running backs Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson stand aside one another during training camp in Latrobe, PA.

Warren has continued to impress with his versatility and burst, Gainwell has made the most of his limited touches, and Johnson has shown promise as a developmental piece. Adding a player like Hall, while tempting given his dynamic skill set, would require giving up valuable draft capital, something the Steelers have historically been hesitant to do unless it clearly upgrades their roster.

Steelers' Offense Would Get Scary With Breece Hall In The Mix

From a depth standpoint, the move does not make much sense, especially considering how Pittsburgh’s rushing attack has started to find its rhythm. However, there is also a valid argument that the Steelers’ ground game has been inconsistent and could easily regress.

A trade for Hall could change that narrative, giving Pittsburgh a potentially lethal one-two punch with Warren and Hall. Still, such a move would not come without risk or lingering questions about how it might impact the balance of the offense and the team’s future assets.

That said, Hall’s potential impact in the passing game could be the factor that draws the Steelers’ interest. He is one of the NFL’s most explosive receiving backs, capable of lining up wide or catching screens and checkdowns with equal effectiveness.

Pairing him with Rodgers could provide Pittsburgh’s offense with another dimension, particularly on third downs and in the red zone, where Rodgers thrives on timing and trust with his playmakers. While the Steelers’ focus has long been on improving their wide receiver depth, a player like Hall could serve as both a runner and receiver, giving Rodgers a familiar and reliable option as Pittsburgh continues to push for a playoff run.
