The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently struggling after their latest loss to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 35-25. They ultimately collapsed in the final 30 minutes of the game as Packers tight end Tucker Kraft was seemingly uncontested all night long. He went for an astounding 143 yards on seven receptions, along with two touchdowns, putting the nail in the coffin for the Steelers in a game that they appeared competitive in early on. They led 16-7 at the half, only to falter late as the Packers secured a statement win on their season while the Steelers continue to wonder what went wrong.

Part of wondering where the Steelers went wrong came into question when Head Coach Mike Tomlin gave his weekly address to the media in which he discussed many potential avenues of where the team was lacking in the loss against the Packers. Tomlin was also asked about the potential of the Steelers making moves in free agency before the trade deadline to bolster the roster and address weaknesses at certain positions, especially on defense, and gave an answer that should provide some encouragement to Steelers fans looking for any sign of positivity.
"I think we're always open for business, particularly as we get closer to the trade deadline," Tomlin stated. "We're always buyers. We're always trying to position ourself to be the best we can be this year, but that not only applies to the secondary that you asked about, I'm sure that applies to all three phases of the game."
Tomlin making the comment that the Steelers are buyers at the trade deadline is certainly a breath of fresh air. It was recently reported that the Steelers will likely lose safety DeShon Elliott for multiple weeks, and without Elliott in the backfield, the Steelers will be particularly thin at safety, leaving passing lanes open for quarterbacks to attack with consistency. The Steelers need to find a way to address the issues that not only Elliott's absence will create in the secondary, but also about the issues on the offensive side of the ball regarding a clear lack of a secondary wide receiver to be a top target. While the offense might not have been the primary issue for the Steelers in the loss to the Packers, it still lingers as an overall issue for the team that needs to be addressed before the trade deadline.

Nonetheless, the Steelers have to be more active players in the trade market this season, especially if they want to make a real run at a Super Bowl in what could likely be the final season of Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They have made efforts so far, bringing in some interesting names for workouts on Tuesday, but only time will tell if the players brought in will be signed by the Steelers or not. With any luck, the Steelers will be successful in signing some players while making trades for others, especially as the injuries on the defensive side of the ball continue to take a toll on their performance, leaving very clear holes in their game plan. Figuring out a plan to acquire help on all sides of the ball is something that the Steelers also need to figure out sooner rather than later.
Steelers Need To Bring In Outside Help Quickly
The 2025 NFL trade deadline might not be until November 4th at 4 PM EST, but other teams around the league have already made key moves to improve on their own weaknesses. The Steelers will need to make a plan to bring in some help from outside the organization soon, before they either get picked up by another team, or the trade deadline passes. Should the trade deadline pass with no acquisitions made, the Steelers would be sending the message that they're comfortable with the state of the team headed into the tough stretch, which after the last loss to the Packers, won't be a comfortable thing to hear for most Steelers fans.
