As the NFL trade deadline approaches, the Pittsburgh Steelers are likely looking to make at least one more trade in an attempt to improve the roster for the final stretch of the regular season. The Steelers already made a deal in an attempt to improve the secondary, bringing in safety Kyle Dugger from the New England Patriots. With less than a week remaining to acquire another player, the Steelers still need a second wide receiver to pair with DK Metcalf, and according to recent reports, phones have been ringing.

One wide receiver that the Steelers have been interested in is former Patriot and current member of the Las Vegas Raiders, Jakobi Meyers. He has had a solid NFL career, but has been relatively quiet so far in 2025, largely because of the Raiders’ offensive struggles.

With Vegas sitting at 2-4, it’s clear they could be sellers at the deadline, and Meyers’ name continues to come up as one of the players who could be moved. According to one NFL insider, the Steelers have already reached out to Vegas in hopes of working out a deal, but so far, nothing has come together. Dianna Russini from The Athletic wrote about Meyers and the Steelers in her recent column.

"The Raiders have fielded calls from the Steelers and Bills on WR Jakobi Meyers, but Las Vegas has set a high price. Pittsburgh is looking at other wide receiver options, too," Russini said.

This comes just days after it was reported that the Raiders were asking for at least a day two pick in the 2026 NFL Draft for Meyers. While that price may sound steep, it’s not completely out of line considering Meyers’ consistency and production over the years.

The Steelers are expected to have plenty of draft compensation, so they have the flexibility to make a deal if they believe it could push them closer to a playoff run. The real question is whether General Manager Omar Khan and Head Coach Mike Tomlin believe Meyers is the missing piece to help balance out the offense.

Meyers would instantly impact the Steelers' offense. He’s known for his strong route-running, reliable hands, and ability to create separation, something Pittsburgh’s passing game has lacked in 2025 outside of Metcalf. The Steelers’ offense has been somewhat consistent, but they have at times lacked big-play potential, as well as having difficulty converting third downs. Meyers could be the kind of addition that helps sustain drives and open things up for both Metcalf and the running game.

Trading for Meyers comes with little risk, as his contract expires after the season. Whatever team acquires him will have an opportunity to extend him as well. If the Steelers send away a valuable draft pick, it’s a move that has to pay off immediately. Pittsburgh hasn’t been known for making splashy midseason trades, but with the AFC playoff picture tightening, this could be one of those rare years where they go all in.

If the Raiders truly want a second or third-round pick, it may come down to how desperate the Steelers are to fix their offensive issues. Either way, it’s clear that Pittsburgh is exploring every possible option to make a push. Whether they land Meyers or pivot to another wide receiver, expect Khan and company to stay active as the deadline inches closer. The Steelers have two third-rounders, one of which is from the Dallas Cowboys in the George Pickens deal.

Steelers Still Looking At Other Options For Wide Receiver Trade

As Russini mentioned in her column, the Steelers are continuing to explore additional trade possibilities. Several names have surfaced as potential targets, including Rashid Shaheed, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Jaylen Waddle. However, the asking prices for those players are expected to be equal to or even higher than Meyers’.

One thing is clear, if Pittsburgh is truly intent on acquiring a legitimate number two wide receiver, it will likely cost them at least one valuable draft pick, it now becomes a matter of if they're willing to do so.
