Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers have no interest in firing Head Coach Mike Tomlin, there have been all kinds of rumors about him no longer running the team after the 2025 season. Everyone from fans, analysts, and players have come out to publicly talk about how controversial his schemes are, and there does not seem to be much of a way to justify his struggles with Xs and Os in recent years. His answers for his issues have only made fans angrier, and it will only make them even louder if wins don't start stacking.

One of these rumors is that Tomlin may want to coach for the New York Giants. They have an exciting offense full of young stars that will be healthy by 2026, and they could use an old-school approach to build the team culture up and no longer be the laughingstock of the league, while the head coach gets a change of scenery and a chance to prove himself elsewhere.
While making an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala explained why that rumor makes absolutely no sense, and why Tomlin has no desire to move up to East Rutherford.
"Everybody who sits here and thinks that [Mike Tomlin] wants to go to the Giants, you've got to be kidding me," Kinkhabwala said. "There is no way that Mike Tomlin wants to deal with the New York media, and there's no way the New York media is going to let that pass."
Tomlin has repeatedly not responded well when pestered about these major issues. He has told the media off, and he's even outright left the podium. That will likely not change just by going to a new team. The New York media might be easy on him at first, but it won't take much for it to turn on him.

Steelers Head Coach, Mike Tomlin speaks to local and national media following his team's tough 20-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Acrisure Stadium in Week 8 of the 2023 season.
In the grand scheme of things, Pittsburgh is a very small market. The media in Western Pennsylvania is kind compared to other places, as Kinkhabwala mentioned as well. It won't be able to drive Tomlin out of town, especially with how low the market is in terms of NFL cities. Besides, letting reporters make you want to leave would be a soft move, and that's not the kind of person that he is.
Even if Tomlin did bail to go to the Giants, it would not take him long to possibly regret that decision. The team plays in New Jersey, but it still has the market of New York City, which is one of the largest in the Western Hemisphere. The media there is not afraid to bombard anyone with the tough questions, no matter how resistant the man at the podium is.
At the end of the day, there is no team where a coach can evade the media and be able to make his decision in peace. However, there are very few cities that are as light on its coaches and players than Pittsburgh. He may be annoyed with the beat writers in the area, but he can deal with them for as long as he's making around $20 million per year.
Steelers Are The Ideal Team For Anyone Who Wants Job Security
On top of all the above mentioned, why would Tomlin want to leave a team that has kept him around since 2007, despite the lack of success in the playoffs since the 2016 season? It doesn't matter if he has Ben Roethlisberger or Kenny Pickett at quarterback: ownership is clearly content with what he has done, and they are willing to give him a very long leash.
