The Pittsburgh Steelers needed a bounce-back win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13, but they could not get it done, falling to 6-6 on the season. Pittsburgh went into halftime up 7-3, but Josh Allen and the Bills came alive in the second half, dominating the Steelers 26-7. Being outscored 23-0 after the break highlighted coaching mistakes, and Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin is taking the heat he arguably deserves. Even the national media has struggled to defend Tomlin this season as the team’s inconsistencies continue to pile up.

Bills star quarterback Josh Allen gets ready to go to work against the Pittsburgh Steelers defense in the 2025 NFL season.

During the loss, Steeler Nation’s frustration reached a boiling point, with fans chanting "Fire Tomlin," possibly for the first time ever at Acrisure Stadium. It was a moment that underscored just how intense the pressure has become on the veteran coach. Directly after his unit’s dismal second-half performance, Tomlin admitted that he shared the frustration of the fan base. He acknowledged the team’s struggles and expressed understanding of the fans’ disappointment.

On Tuesday, Tomlin addressed the media and shared his honest response to fans calling for the organization to fire him, the man who has spent nearly two decades leading the Steelers. Despite the criticism, Tomlin remains focused on trying to keep his streak alive. He has never had a losing season in his 18-year career and is now fighting to prevent one in his 19th.

"You know, in general I agree with them," Tomlin said while speaking with the Pittsburgh media on Tuesday afternoon. "From this perspective, football is our game and we are in the sport and entertainment business. So when you root for the Steelers, entertaining them is winning. So when you are not winning, it is not entertaining... I respect it and I share their frustrations."

Tomlin’s comments were equal parts revealing, frustrating, and candid. He acknowledged the fans’ passion and disappointment while also expressing his commitment to the team and the standards he has upheld for nearly two decades.

Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin roams the practice field as his team works out during a 2025 training camp practice at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

As the Steelers sit at .500, the path forward is uncertain, and Tomlin’s leadership and decision-making will be under intense scrutiny. For Steelers fans, the message was clear. The coach who has given so much to the organization is human, and this season is testing both him and the team like never before.

"I understand what makes this thing go," Tomlin said. "Winning is what makes this thing go."

Tomlin’s candid response to the criticism shows that he is not immune to the weight of expectations, and it underscores the fact that this season is about more than just wins and losses.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin Has Run Out Of Excuses

It is about accountability, coaching decisions, and whether the Steelers can rediscover the focus and execution that once made them one of the league’s elite teams. Steelers fans want results, and the next few weeks will determine if Tomlin can guide his team back on track or if the calls for change will only grow louder.

Steelers retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger visits his former team and Head Coach Mike Tomlin at a team practice just before the 2023 season at the UPMC Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, PA.

Even Tomlin’s former players are struggling to defend him. Ben Roethlisberger criticized the lack of proper halftime adjustments, while James Harrison went further, saying Tomlin has never been a great head coach. The noise surrounding Tomlin’s tenure is becoming increasingly difficult to defend, but the question remains: will the Steelers do something they rarely do and actually move on from him?

What would have to happen for the Steelers to actually move on from Tomlin? Let us know in the comments below! Please feel free to share your Steelers takes with me on X @anthonyghalkias and follow me. I will respond!
