The Pittsburgh Steelers entered into a saga that certainly tired the fan base during the 2025 offseason. That saga centered on Aaron Rodgers, and it was clear former head coach Mike Tomlin had strong belief that Rodgers could help push the franchise over the hump. Rodgers ultimately delivered a solid regular season, helping lead the Steelers to a 10–7 record and an AFC North title, validating much of that faith during the year.

However, the season ended on a sour note. Pittsburgh was eliminated in the Wild Card Round with a 24-point home loss, abruptly halting what had been a promising campaign. Not long after, Tomlin stepped away from coaching, and the organization turned to a familiar face for Rodgers, hiring Mike McCarthy, his former coach with the Green Bay Packers, to take over as head coach. The change only added more intrigue to an already complicated situation.

Now, Steeler Nation is watching closely to see how the Rodgers offseason drama unfolds. On Tuesday morning, fans received the most important update yet when General Manager Omar Khan addressed the media at the NFL Combine. Khan explained there is no set timeline for a decision from Rodgers, but he does not expect the process to drag out the way it did during the 2025 offseason, offering some reassurance that clarity may come sooner rather than later.
"So you know uh, nothing new to add," Khan said while speaking on Rodgers. "I have been in communication with Aaron. We have had good communication with him, but there's nothing new to report there. I will take any questions."
Khan began his comments by saying there was nothing new to truly add regarding Rodgers and his decision. While that initially sounded familiar to Steelers fans, Khan’s remarks did not stop there. He went on to share a telling sentiment about how the organization views the timeline of the situation.

Khan made it clear there is no deadline in place and no intention to pressure Rodgers into a rushed decision. At the same time, he noted that the team does not expect the process to linger the way it did during the 2025 offseason. Those comments offered the strongest indication yet that the Steelers believe clarity could be right around the corner.
"No deadline," Khan said. "All I will say to you guys is that I do not see this going like it did last year."
As the offseason continues, the Steelers do have alternatives if the Rodgers situation stalls. Pittsburgh can turn to Will Howard or Mason Rudolph, though neither option inspires much confidence across the fan base.
Steelers Questioned About Love Affair For Aaron Rodgers
Howard remains unproven at the NFL level, while many feel the organization already knows exactly what it has in Rudolph. That reality fuels the debate around Rodgers, who will be 43 years old during the 2026 season. Plenty of fans question whether committing to a quarterback at that age is the right long-term move.

There is growing support for going younger and allowing Howard a real opportunity to develop. For Pittsburgh, the choice appears simple. Hand the keys to Howard and see what happens, or convince Rodgers to return for another season well past his prime. The Steelers have started to face questions over what many see as a perceived love affair with Rodgers. Fans wonder if the team is putting too much faith in a 43-year-old quarterback instead of giving younger options like Howard a chance to develop.
