The Pittsburgh Steelers still have no idea what the future holds at the quarterback position for the franchise. Leaving that out of the equation, General Manager Omar Khan has put together a very respectable 2026 offseason as the organization has been focused on bolstering the roster so that new head coach Mike McCarthy can have a chance at possibly making a postseason run. For a team that hasn't prevailed in the playoffs in almost a decade, drastic changes may be happening behind closed doors with the front office working to get the collective more competitive.

The goal year-in and year-out for the Steelers when the NFL Draft comes is to hopefully not have one glaring need. With the moves made so far by Khan and co., Pittsburgh should be in great shape when the big event occurs. The one big question mark โ besides at quarterback โ comes on the offensive line. Losing Isaac Seumalo to the Arizona Cardinals in free agency has the team in the Steel City looking for answers.
McCarthy is going to want to run the ball effectively, and the interior part of the line is crucial, particularly for short possession downs. It seems a bit odd that a starting-caliber player hasn't been signed from the open market, which begs the question of if the Steelers are possibly looking to take a left guard extremely early on in the NFL Draft.
Brian Batko is a beat writer who covers the team for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and recently hosted a chat with fans to go over a lot of the moves that the franchise has, or has yet, to make. When the offensive line came up, he was asked about the avenue in which the Steelers will bolster the depth chart at left guard.
"Both is my guess," Batko wrote when referring to the NFL Draft and free agency. "And, assuming they sign one, it should probably be a guard who can also play center and back up Zach Frazier at that spot."
An individual who fits that mold very well is Brock Hoffman, who was originally reported to be signing with Pittsburgh, until those rumors were shut down. Batko doubled down on the fact that the Steelers will add at the position.
"Yeah, I figure there will be a minor one here and there. Interior offensive lineman is still pretty much vacant on this roster outside of Mason McCormick, Zach Frazier and Spencer Anderson. Need an insurance policy there."
It doesn't really matter how Khan and the rest of the decision-makers bring in help for a crucial spot of the line; it just matters that it actually happens. The Steelers found Mason McCormick in round four back in 2024, so there's no reason to deny the possibility of the front office investing in a short-term option in free agency, and a long-term option in the draft.

As of now, the Steelers aren't feeling the loss of Seumalo. There's no guarantee, though, that the decision to let him walk in free agency won't be regretted. Stout offensive lines help bring division titles and playoff wins to cities. Pittsburgh has done what it possibly could to revamp the unit in recent years, but it's main veteran and lead-by-example figure is now gone. That could be something that comes back to bite the team.

Steelers May Have Very Fascinating Choice In The First Round Of 2026 NFL Draft
As the host city, Pittsburgh could make a big swing when the 21st overall selection is due. However, there could be another potential option that might really tempt Khan to take him if he is on the board. Olaivavega Ioane could be a superstar at the next level. Coming from Penn State, it's possible that a team chooses to take him later on in the first round. The opportunity may present itself to the Steelers, and Khan could continue the very specific trend of building in the trenches.
