The Pittsburgh Steelers have made several additions so far during the 2026 offseason, but it is hard to predict just how much some of these additions will contribute. Players like Michael Pittman Jr., Rico Dowdle, and Jamel Dean will obviously be on the field a ton, but it is the other guys who will probably play a smaller role that it is difficult to predict the future for. This is due to the fact that it is essentially a whole new coaching staff in Pittsburgh. It is hard to predict how new head coach Mike McCarthy is going to go about creating his final roster.

Steelers' new head coach Mike McCarthy smiles as he addresses the media during his introductory press conference that took place at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA.
One area of the roster that is relatively up in the air is the entire left side of the offensive line. Broderick Jones is still recovering from a neck injury, and Dylan Cook has a small, but good sample size at left tackle. Pittsburgh's starting left guard for the last three seasons, Isaac Seumalo, left the team in free agency and joined the Arizona Cardinals. That creates a significant hole at left guard, with fourth-year player Spencer Anderson as the front-runner to take the position as of right now. Beat writer Ray Fittipaldo was asked during his chat on Tuesday for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about new free agent signing Brock Hoffman replacing Seumalo.
"I wouldn't say Hoffman was signed to replace Seumalo," Fittipaldo wrote. "I think the leader in the clubhouse [before the draft] is Spencer Anderson. Honestly, Hoffman might be competing with Ryan McCollum for a roster spot as the top interior backup at center and guard. But we'll see how camp unfolds."
It was reported that the Steelers would be signing Hoffman a little over a week or so ago, but the deal did not become a reality until he signed on Saturday. He has been in the NFL for four seasons, and he is an interior offensive lineman with the flexibility to play center and guard.

The obvious connection between Hoffman and the Steelers is with McCarthy. McCarthy was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for three of the seasons that Hoffman was there, and he was the head coach when the lineman was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022. This is the second time McCarthy has picked up Hoffman.
Hoffman has carved out a nice career for himself as an undrafted player. He has played in 54 total games and started 16 of them, and he should be in consideration for the starting left guard spot as of right now. Fittipaldo gives the edge to Anderson, which makes sense. Fittipaldo can see a world where Hoffman might not even make the roster, as he could also be competing with Ryan McCollum for the backup center job. McCollum has filled in nicely for the Steelers in the past, most notably in 2024 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He also went on to start the two games after that.

Steelers' Spencer Anderson Has A Chance To Make His Mark In Pittsburgh
Anderson has done a great job as a depth piece along the offensive line, and he really made noise as the sixth offensive lineman for the Steelers during the 2025 season. The package that had him on the field as an extra offensive lineman elevated the running game, and he even caught a pass out of that package. He is currently the front-runner at the left guard spot, although a lot can change with the 2026 NFL Draft coming up. He would likely compete with Hoffman and any rookie that the organization decides to bring in. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal, so this is a crucial year for him.
What do you think about Hoffman potentially missing out on the final roster? Let me know on X, @brogannoey!
