The Pittsburgh Steelers have been committed to building a dominant offensive line ever since Omar Khan took over as GM. The commitment has come largely through the draft, as the Steelers have worked hard using picks to get younger, find value, and build long-term continuity at one of the most important positions in football. That strategy also centers on creating cohesion so the unit can grow together, improve communication, and develop into a group that relies not just on talent, but also chemistry and consistent reps as a full five-man front.

For Khan, it is no secret that he believes you win games in the trenches, and that is the recipe for success in the NFL. The Steelers’ new head coach Mike McCarthy has always had reliable offensive lines during his 18 seasons as a head coach, and now in his first season in Pittsburgh, it is clear he is quickly aligning with Khan’s vision. The Steelers kicked off the draft by selecting Max Iheanachor 21st overall. They also drafted Gennings Dunker 96th overall after trading up to secure him, signaling how aggressive they are being about locking in young talent early.
When Steelers fans take a deeper look at the depth chart, the revelation could set up Pittsburgh for a decade-plus of stability up front. Dunker is just 22, Iheanachor is 22, Zach Frazier is 24, Broderick Jones is 24, Troy Fautanu is 25, Mason McCormick is 25, Spencer Anderson is 25, Brock Hoffman is 26, and Dylan Cook is 28, forming one of the youngest and most controllable offensive line groups in the league.

They are so young at such a critical position in the NFL, and that gives them the chance to grow and develop together over time rather than constantly being reshuffled. Adding to that foundation is offensive line coach James Campen, who has a strong history of developing productive offensive lines and is now trusted to mold this group into a long-term strength for Pittsburgh. He will be doing it alongside his former guy in McCarthy. The two have formed a dynamic duo in terms of building solid offensive lines and now they will look to bring that back to the Steelers.
Steelers Have Built The Perfect Foundation
All the debate has been about the quarterback position, and rightfully so, since it is the most important position in football. However, everyone has been focused on who is going to be the quarterback. Aaron Rodgers has hinted he may come back and play for the Steelers in 2026, or he may not. Well now the Steelers have two exciting young prospects in Drew Allar and Will Howard. It would be an interesting quarterback competition, and with a dominant, growing young offensive line, the Steelers are executing on a really solid trajectory.

The offensive line has started to show promise as these players grow over time and get more comfortable playing together and with a young quarterback leading them. The way the NFL works, the Steelers’ quarterback could be on a rookie deal while the offensive line becomes a real strength of the team, which is exactly how contenders are built.
If Pittsburgh continues developing this group the right way, the timing could line up perfectly for a stable offense built from the inside out, giving the Steelers a long-term foundation on both the line and under center. The average age of the Steelers' offensive line is about 24.6 years old. If Pittsburgh can just get a reliable QB under center then they could very well enter the Super Bowl conversation much quicker than initially expected.
