Steelers' Germie Bernard Sends Powerful Update To Fans: "Success And Win"

The Pittsburgh Steelers missed out on drafting wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. In the second round, they traded up to ensure they did not miss out on Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard. The Steelers got him 47th overall and it feels like it was a steal at that spot. He was super productive in college and will look to bring that production into this new Mike McCarthy-led system. Steelers General Manager Omar Khan was thrilled to land Bernard.

The rookie sat down with Missi Matthews of Steelers.com for an interview, where she asked him what message he wants Steeler Nation to know. Bernard had one clear message for Steelers fans. He made it clear that he is ready to work, earn his role, and prove he belongs in Pittsburgh’s offense from day one. He also spoke about embracing the physical identity the team is building under McCarthy. Bernard is also excited to get to work alongside two exciting veterans in DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr.

"Yeah, first I want people to know my identity is in Christ, and that is something I believe in the most, and something I want people to see within me, and I want to bring that to this community," Bernard said. "I want to [make an] impact in any way I can. I know this organization is going to get a selfless teammate and a guy that will do everything to help this team have success and win."

Bernard emphasized that he is not focused on hype or outside expectations, but on consistency, effort, and doing his job every time he steps on the field. The Steelers believe they may have found a reliable playmaker at a strong value in the second round, and the organization is excited about his potential development. For Khan, the confidence in Bernard only grew after hearing how locked in he is heading into his rookie season.

Bernard joining the Steelers makes this a very exciting addition to Brian Angelichio’s offense. He is going to likely be an interchangeable piece as the big slot or Z receiver alongside Pittman. Metcalf will not get all of the focus from opposing secondaries now, and he should see more separation opportunities himself. This offense, whether Aaron Rodgers comes back or not, is in a good spot. The running game is set up nicely, and the offensive line is young and growing together. There is a good reason to be excited about the foundation Khan has built. Now it is up to McCarthy to get results on the field with wins.

There is also a clear sense that Bernard’s arrival helps balance out the entire passing structure. Defenses will not be able to key in on just one matchup anymore, especially with multiple receivers who can win in different areas of the field. That versatility should help create easier reads for the quarterback and open up more schemed looks in the passing game. During the 2025 NFL season, the Steelers struggled to find receivers open down the field.

Steelers Hopeful That Bernard Will Develop Fast

If Bernard develops quickly, he could become one of those mid-round picks that ends up playing a much bigger role than expected early in his career. His ability to work inside and outside gives Pittsburgh flexibility in how they deploy personnel groupings and matchup-based formations. That kind of versatility is exactly what modern NFL offenses need to stay unpredictable. It's also exactly what McCarthy likes in his receivers.

Overall, the Steelers are starting to look like a roster that is built with real intention on offense rather than just filling needs. The pieces are young, athletic, and complementary, which gives the coaching staff multiple ways to attack defenses. Now the challenge is turning that potential into consistent production, and that will be the true test of McCarthy’s system in Pittsburgh.
